About the position
The Boston Teacher Residency Clinical Teacher Educator (BTR CTE), STEM, is responsible for teaching content methods, developing coursework that addresses research and theory on content development in the secondary grades, and applying evidence-based practices in the classroom.
The STEM CTE is responsible for coaching approximately 10-15 residents in secondary science, math, and computer science, ensuring that all novices develop the knowledge and skills required to be effective teachers who can drive significant learning and achievement for all students.
Reporting to the BTR Director, BTR CTEs contribute to a shared, distributive leadership model within the BTR team.
About BTR
Boston Teacher Residency, an AmeriCorps program, is a nationally recognized clinical teacher preparation program whose graduates support student achievement from day one and who stay in teaching, continuing to refine and improve their practice.
Created in 2002 as a joint initiative between the Boston Public Schools and Boston Plan for Excellence (BPE), we designed BTR to meet the evolving needs of Boston's children and families, and we have since prepared a diverse group of over 800 teachers in high-need areas such as math, science, and special education.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Coaching and Development
  • Engages in entry and check-in meetings with residents and the director throughout the year
  • Facilitates support/success plans for residents with the director, as needed
  • Responsible for the retention of residents
  • Plans and facilitates two evaluation cycles of residents (formative and summative)
  • Participates in monthly sacred meetings, Collaborating Teacher professional development (CT PD), and Instructor Meetings to ensure alignment of feedback for residents
  • Participates in weekly coaching interactions with residents using the BTR systems-wide coaching approach
  • Builds strong relationships with CTs and residents to support student learning and resident success.
  • Develops the content knowledge and instructional practice of CTs and residents.
  • Participates in some BTR Events and Flex Times
  • Shares facilitation of BTR coach meetings/ CT PD/Unit Planning Week, etc
  • Aligns content methods to the BTR systems-wide coaching approach
  • Aligns grading practices to agreed-upon equitable grading practices
  • Implements recommendations from the Curriculum Review Team regarding alignment and coherence in courses

Content Leadership
  • Possesses deep expertise in at least one STEM content area and the ability to support residents in applying content-specific instructional practices
  • Knows pedagogical content knowledge
  • Collaborates with the elementary content team to create coherence and alignment within the program
  • Keeps up with current research and best practices in their content and pedagogy

Program Leadership
  • Contributes to decision-making for BTR programmatic efforts
  • Co-leads and implements two to three projects a year aligned with the BTR strategic plan
  • Co-designs, builds, and maintains a systems-wide programmatic approach in several program areas, including, but not limited to, operations, enrollment, residency experience, compliance, data, etc
  • Serves as a thought partner to residents, CTs, and BTR colleagues in support of resident growth and program improvement

Experience and Skills
Qualifications
  • Alignment with BPE's mission, vision, and core values
  • Demonstrated proficiency as a teacher and instructional coach
  • Experience supporting the growth of adult learners, including coaching, mentoring, supervising, or developing novice educators, pre-service teachers, residents, and/or veteran teachers
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessment and diagnosis.
  • Deep expertise in at least one STEM content area and a strong understanding of content-specific pedagogy
  • Deep understanding of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
  • Experience designing and facilitating professional learning for educators and/or adult learners
  • Experience teaching coursework in higher education, teacher preparation, or other adult learning settings
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills
  • Strong and tested ability to participate effectively on teams
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability when balancing multiple priorities, stakeholders, and competing deadlines
  • Proven ability to prioritize, balance, and complete complex projects in the face of competing deadlines
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, reflection, and professional growth

Job Benefits
Compensation
BPE offers a generous benefits package, including group health, dental, life insurance, a retirement plan, and a vacation allowance. The salary range for a BTR CTE position is $100,000-$115,000.
Location and Schedule
BPE's office is located in Roxbury, MA. This position requires travel to various Boston Public Schools.
