Elementary Spanish Immersion Teacher
JOB DESCRIPTION: La Academia's Spanish Immersion Teacher will play an essential role the in the growth and development of our students. The Spanish Immersion Teacher will nurture in each student a love for learning through language development (reading, writing, speaking, and listening), understanding numbers and operations in mathematics, and applying their knowledge of science in the real world. The Spanish Immersion Teacher will model and engage in La Academia's equity minded practices and other mission aligned values.
REPORTS TO: Elementary Dean of Curriculum & Instruction
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 








  • Teach Elementary Spanish Immersion classes that implement ACTFL core practices and Common Core Standards in Spanish Language Arts, Mathematics and Next Generation Science Standards
  • Differentiate instruction effectively to meet the needs of all students (English Learners, Students with Disabilities, as well as Students who are Below and Above grade level)
  • Drive outstanding student achievement and engaged learning through creative lesson plans and organized classroom procedures
  • Develop creative, rigorous lesson plans following the grade level scope/sequence and pacing guides
  • Through formative and summative assessments, evaluate all students regularly and communicate with families of student progress
  • Provide continual assessments and accurate tracking of student progress, maintains student work records, and completes assigned paperwork in provided time frames
  • Conduct both student and teacher lead parent conferences
  • Participate in professional growth activates, collaborative groups and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
  • Build strong, positive relationships and work collaboratively with a diverse community of students and their families as well as colleagues
  • Complete all required training, goal setting, and other areas of compliance related to professional evaluations
  • Prepare lesson plans, seating charts, and classroom procedures for substitute teachers
  • Utilize school required platforms as required to perform duties
  • Perform other classroom responsibilities and all other duties as assigned and/or stated in our Employee Handbook

  • Demonstrate passion to work with Elementary Schoolers through a student-centered, whole child approach
  • Prioritize life-long learning and be driven to improve their instructional practice to continue their professional and personal development as an educator
  • Take a Responsive Classroom approach to classroom behavior and promote restorative practices among students as a community member
  • Partner constructively with all staff and parents to fulfill our school mission

 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Delaware Teaching License and Certification at the Elementary level in accordance with 14 Del. C. 1531
  • Successful completion of Praxis II exams
  • ACTFL Oral proficiency of "Advanced Mid" in Spanish
  • 1-2 years of teaching experience at the elementary school level with bachelor's degree in Elementary Education
  • Additional qualifications and/or alternatives as deemed necessary by the Board of Education and School Administration
  • Must be able to stand and work continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workday
  • Minimum lifting requirements- 50 pounds (with assistance)
  • Must be able to use arms and hands without restrictions to accommodate the physical, mobility, and ambulatory needs of students continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workday
