FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SUPERVISOR: Media Aide
JOB GOAL: Complies with local, state and federal mandates.Instructs students in curricular activities designed to promote social physical and intellectual growth in the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible adults.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Master's degree and valid Oklahoma certification required
Experience: Successful internship or teaching experience in the area of library media
Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret written information; skill in writing required reports/correspondence; ability to effectively present information orally and respond to questions from others, work with mathematical concepts and apply to practical situations; ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: these statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.
  1. Embraces the goals of continuous school improvement and increasing student achievement through management of the school media center. Teaches information literacy skills to students and administers the reading management program.
  2. Evaluates the library program, establishes goals, and administers the library budget.
  3. Creates and sustains a library environment with effective and well communicated library operating procedures. Follows library practices that reflect legal guidelines and professional standards.
  4. Develops and maintains a library collection that supports the total instructional program and integrates library services with the district educational program. Selects materials that appeal to a wide variety of library users in accordance with BOE policy.
  5. Participates in the learning process towards the achievement of district curriculum and district goals by contributing as a member of the instructional team in curriculum development. Collaborates with classroom teachers.
  6. Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  7. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  8. Creates a library environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students; establishes clear standards of pupil behavior and provides a pleasant, safe and orderly climate conducive to learning.
  9. Develops and maintains lesson plans and instructional material appropriate to district curriculum which may be adapted to the needs of each student.
  10. Participates in the schools PLC process when appropriate.
  11. Establishes effective rapport with students and develops positive and effective relationships with parents and other staff members. Communicates regularly with parents both inside and outside the normal contract day.
  12. Observes all rules, regulations, policies and practices of the District and administration.
  13. Applies knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
  14. Accepts and performs teaching and any other duties, including co-curricular and extracurricular duties, as assigned by the superintendent and principal as may be needed to maintain the educational programs offered by the District.
  15. Attends all meetings as required by the superintendent and principal.
  16. Complies with the assigned duty times of the teacher contract day and with the standards of performance and conduct for teachers as set forth by the state department of education.

ESSENTIAL BEHAVIOR:
Ability to use sound judgment in any situation. Must be able to respond rapidly and appropriately to needs of students. Must build harmonious rapport and work cooperatively with administrators, site staff, students and parents.
ATTENDANCE STATEMENT:
Able to be in attendance as contracted and for extra duties as assigned per district policy.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Primarily inside working conditions; some exposure to environmental conditions during outside duty.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS:
  • Sitting at a desk for extended periods, as well as stooping, kneeling, crouching and bending.
  • Talking and hearing in order to communicate with other employees and public on the phone and in person concerning job-related duties
  • Manual dexterity required to operate a keyboard with proficiency, calculator, telephone, and other office equipment
  • Ability to lift and manipulate library equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Walking as required to access equipment and perform responsibilities
  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
