JOB TITLE: Director of Elementary Curriculum

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Academics

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

PAY GRADE: AI 5

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Director of Elementary Curriculum provides leadership and campus support for the advancement of student achievement throughout all elementary content areas. The director monitors, oversees and leads the development of curricula and assessments to support campuses, and ensures alignment of assessments.

The Director of Elementary Curriculum must act with integrity, support organizational goals, demonstrate the ability to inspire, grow and motivate others, utilize feedback, drive for results and commit to championing the needs of the students, employees and overall district.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Masterโ€™s degree in content and/or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Five yearsโ€™ experience in curriculum and instruction at the campus and/or district level
  • At least three yearsโ€™ administrative experience at a campus and/or district level

Preferred:

  • Five yearsโ€™ experience as a classroom teacher
  • Valid Texas teacher certification
  • Principal or mid-management certification
Special Knowledge / Skills
  • Knowledge of learning theory, program planning, curriculum development and management of instructional programs
  • Knowledge in assigned content areas, including writing instruction and literacy skills/concepts
  • Knowledge of grade level promotion and graduation requirements
  • Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data
  • Ability to develop and supervise teams
  • Ability to provide direction for campus leadership
  • Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to coordinate district functions
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provides leadership and supervision for Elementary Curriculum Department.
  • Direct the implementation of Pre-kindergarten through grade 5 core content curricula across the district.
  • Design, lead, and oversee district wide professional learning aligned to instructional priorities, accountability goals, turnaround efforts, and district strategic initiatives including: High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM), Strong Foundations, LASO, MTSS and RTI frameworks
  • Facilitate professional learning for campus coaches, campus specialists, campus leaders, and district leadership teams through the following: coaching cycles, leadership institutes, PLC facilitation, instructional walkthrough calibration, and instructional leadership development.
  • Plan and provide effective, professional, content-based learning activities based on analysis of data for teachers and administrators.
  • Plan and coordinate district wide professional learning events, including Learning Fairs, District Professional Development Days, and large-scale leadership institutes.
  • Design and coordinate content support for campuses in lesson design and instructional engagement and practices using the Spring Way framework.
  • Model, coach and commit to personal improvement in instructional best practices and techniques.
  • Advocate, facilitate and monitor the alignment, instruction, and assessment improvement in the accomplishment of the districtโ€™s literacy goals.
  • Understand the correlation between college and career readiness standards in alignment with state curriculum
  • Articulate understanding of local, state and federal accountability systems and special programs.
  • Remain current on educational research and instructional best practices and apply research and data to improve student engagement and achievement.
  • Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy.
  • Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  • Articulate the districtโ€™s goals and needs to the community and solicit its support in reaching those goals.
  • Manage communication between staff and the Curriculum and Instruction Department.
  • Serve as a support for campus walk-throughs.
  • Assist schools in securing appropriate instructional materials.
  • Work collaboratively across all Spring ISD departments.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobโ€™s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to manage time in ways that allows deadlines to be met; ability to use technology and coach teachers in technology use for programs and resources; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
