What are jobs in the electronics field?

If you’re familiar with electronics, you have a wide range of careers available. One of the most prestigious and highly-paid options is an electronics engineer. In this position, you design electronic circuits and determine how they travel through a building, as well as find ways to make electronics work more efficiently. You can also work in manufacturing, creating electronic components. The duties of this field require you to connect wires to circuit boards or perform similar tasks. You could also be an electrician, in which your responsibilities involve diagnosing electrical problems at a facility. You can also work in the technology industry.

What is the difference between Electronics vs Electrical Technician?

AspectElectronicsElectrical Technician
CredentialsTypically requires an associate degree or diploma in electronics or related fieldOften requires a diploma or technical certification in electrical systems
Work EnvironmentDesign, testing, and troubleshooting electronic devices and circuitsInstallation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems in buildings or machinery
Industry UsageConsumer electronics, telecommunications, aerospace, and manufacturingConstruction, utilities, manufacturing, and maintenance services

Electronics professionals focus on electronic circuits, devices, and systems, often working in design and testing roles. Electrical Technicians primarily handle electrical wiring, systems installation, and maintenance. While both roles require technical skills, Electronics specialists typically work more with small components and circuit design, whereas Electrical Technicians deal with larger electrical systems and infrastructure.

Job description

Who We Are:

Resonant Link Medical is pioneering the future of wireless power and data transfer for implantable medical devices to help people get well and stay well. We've designed our first-of-its-kind wireless charging into more than 50 different types of medical devices and support customers around the world from our offices and employee hubs in Burlington, Vermont, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Zurich, Switzerland. We are seeking a Staff Power Electronics Engineer to join our team to advance our products and processes as we grow, working from one of our three hubs. Note, we are open to supporting relocation for the right candidate.

In this role, you will take ownership of high-stakes electrical engineering challenges across power electronics and analog circuit design, helping drive our systems from concept through working hardware. You will focus on rigorous power electronic design, schematic capture, PCB layout, and lab-based debugging and verification to ensure our platforms are reliable, manufacturable, and ready for customer delivery. Along the way, you'll design and implement new circuits, support the test engineering team by testing and debugging hardware, and collaborate with teammates to raise the level of technical rigor across the organization. Your work will directly shape the quality, reliability, and delivery of our product platforms and help create wireless power solutions that improve patient care.

At Resonant Link Medical, we're committed to building a collaborative culture that spans disciplines and geographies. To help us deliver on our mission, we're looking for detail-oriented problem solvers and empathetic team players who are passionate about working for a quickly growing and evolving business. If you thrive in a high-impact, hands-on environment and are interested in helping advance a promising medical technology, this is the role for you!

Your typical day will involve...
  • Owning high-stakes electrical engineering risks across power electronics, battery management, and analog circuits - and driving them to closure to ensure reliable customer hardware delivery.
  • Designing and implementing circuits end-to-end, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and release in Altium, turning concepts into high-fidelity hardware.
  • Rolling up your sleeves in the lab to prototype, test, validate, and debug hardware using disciplined, methodical engineering practices.
  • Debugging complex electrical systems, quickly identifying failure modes in power, analog, and mixed-signal circuits and driving root-cause resolution.
  • Driving hardware through internal milestones, including schematic release, layout, initial bring-up, detailed verification, and final shipping.
  • Supporting the test engineering team as a technical subject-matter expert, accelerating troubleshooting and verification workflows.
  • Collaborating across disciplines - systems, electromagnetics, mechanical, firmware, and test - to deliver integrated, production-ready platforms.
  • Raising the bar on engineering rigor, improving EE workflows, documentation, and internal processes.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong foundation in power electronics and analog circuit design.
  • Experience designing and validating circuits and power converters for regulated, high-reliability products.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture, PCB layout, and release using Altium.
