Job description

Be the craftsperson behind safer surgeries

Imagine this: You and a teammate roll up to a hospital in a fully equipped mobile workshop. Inside, trays of surgical instruments wait for expert hands. You power up the grinding and buffing wheels, steady your grip, and bring precision tools back to life so clinicians can focus on patient care. That’s a typical day as a Mobile Surgical Instrumentation Repair Specialist with STERIS.

Sign-on bonus: $2,500 available

We help healthcare providers create a safer, healthier world through innovative products and services across healthcare and life sciences. No prior instrument repair experience? We’ll train you.

What you'll tackle
  • Perform basic to intermediate inspections, sharpening, and repairs on surgical instruments onsite at local hospitals.
  • Use grinding and buffing wheels, soldering equipment, and a variety of hand and power tools to restore function and finish.
  • Work as a two-person field team from a truck-based mobile workshop, traveling to customer locations.
  • Rely on manual dexterity, a keen eye for detail, and a drive to learn to master increasingly intricate repairs.
Training and growth
  • Extensive, hands-on training program—no instrument repair background required.
  • Clear advancement path, including opportunities to step into supervisory roles.
Compensation and benefits
  • Competitive pay with a quarterly incentive opportunity.
  • Comprehensive benefits: medical, vision, dental, life insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Tuition assistance.
  • Paid vacation and paid holidays.
What you bring
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Flexibility for early/late hours with occasional overnight and out-of-state travel based on customer needs.
  • Ability to pass a DOT medical/physical exam and comply with all DOT regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record (CDL not required) and ability to maintain required vaccines.
  • 21+ years old to meet FMCSA requirements for commercial interstate driving.
What counts as relevant experience?

Hands-on work with small tools or precision tasks translates well. Candidates often come from backgrounds such as:

  • Small engine, cell phone, or electronics repair; testing or rebuilds.
  • Carpentry; circuit board assembly/repair.
  • Sterile processing; industrial sewing; jewelry repair.
  • Maintenance, construction, and automotive repair.
  • Assembly, product testing, or any role using small hand tools.
