Job description

 TCOM is seeking a Senior Mechanical Packaging Engineer Lead to work on and lead a team of mechanical engineers on the design, production support and test of electrical/electronic systems for lighter-than-air vehicles and their ground support facilities. The successful candidate will have at least a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and should have mechanical packaging design experience working with electrical and electronic assemblies, preferably for the aviation industry.

Duties/Responsibilities

The individual will be responsible for leading a team of mechanical engineers in the design of lightweight electrical assemblies in space restricted enclosures for use in avionics applications where the assemblies are exposed to the atmosphere and operate in high EMI environments.  The individual will be responsible for performing analysis on designs, to include structural and thermal testing. The successful candidate will work with the electrical engineering designers to define the mechanical design requirements and will develop the packaging design concepts and layouts for detailed drawing development. The candidate will also work with manufacturing to ensure designs adhere to company manufacturing standards and capabilities.  The candidate will function as the lead point of contact for all mechanical packaging efforts.  The candidate will be required to work with engineering management in determining man-power resources, level of effort, and design cost estimation. The position requires a candidate with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary groups. A willingness to develop skills in new areas is an advantage. Occasional travel to TCOM’s North Carolina facility may be required. The candidate must possess a strong base of practical skills to enable following all aspects of the design from concept through fabrication and test.  The position will require the candidate to participate in Design Reviews to show packaging design meets customer requirements. 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of ten years of engineering experience. Advanced degree can be substituted for job experience pending review
  • Ability to create production level engineering documentation for a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to integrate and support in manufacturing environment for 1st article builds
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills for interfacing with senior management and customers as well as mentoring of other engineers
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance

In compliance with state and local laws, the salary range for this role is $129,373 - $180,760. The range provided is a general guideline and good faith estimate representative of all experience levels but is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. TCOM considers several factors when extending an offer including, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, a candidate’s experience, education/training, key skills, internal equity, and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
