Job description

Take Your Electronics Expertise to New Heights as a Senior FAA Repair & Overhaul Electronic Engineering Technician

Location: Tucson, AZ | Annual Pay: $54,080/year | Schedule: 2nd shift, train on 1st shift

PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with a recognized leader in the aviation and aerospace industry to find an experienced Senior FAA Repair & Overhaul (R&O) Electronic Engineering Technician. This direct hire opportunity is ideal for a highly skilled electronics professional who thrives on solving complex technical challenges, troubleshooting sophisticated electronic systems, and supporting the production, repair, and testing of advanced aerospace products.

In this role, you'll play a critical part in ensuring the quality, reliability, and airworthiness of electronic assemblies while collaborating closely with engineers, manufacturing teams, and technical leaders to support innovative technologies that keep the aviation industry moving safely and efficiently.

What You'll Do

As a Senior FAA Repair & Overhaul Electronic Engineering Technician, you will:

  • Perform complex manufacturing, assembly, repair, modification, and testing of electronic products, including new and prototype hardware.

  • Troubleshoot electronic failures to the component level, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.

  • Diagnose failures involving test equipment, chassis, circuit cards, connectors, wiring, components, and environmental stress conditions.

  • Lead investigations into hardware anomalies at both board and box levels and recommend long-term corrective actions.

  • Partner with engineers to develop, improve, and validate manufacturing and testing processes.

  • Create detailed work instructions and test procedures that support efficient production and repair operations.

  • Develop and deliver training programs while mentoring technicians on manufacturing and testing methodologies.

  • Interpret test data and recommend process improvements when standard procedures do not address unique production challenges.

  • Identify potential design-related issues and collaborate with engineering teams to implement corrective actions.

  • Serve as a technical resource and provide guidance to team members while promoting quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, Science, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline—or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

  • 5–10 years of relevant electronics experience, including 4+ years of electrical hardware engineering experience

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot electronic assemblies and circuit card assemblies (CCAs) to the component level.

  • Strong knowledge of analog and linear circuitry, including:

    • Signal conditioning

    • Analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion

    • Digital-to-analog (D/A) conversion

  • Experience diagnosing failures caused by environmental conditions such as thermal cycling (heat and cold).

  • Ability to interpret test failures and isolate issues involving test equipment, circuit cards, components, chassis, wiring, connectors, and electrical noise.

  • Experience leading root cause investigations and corrective actions for hardware anomalies.

  • Advanced solder certification.

  • Ability to successfully pass both basic and advanced soldering qualifications.

  • Comprehensive understanding and practical application of Ohm's Law.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical documentation skills.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering and manufacturing teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting FAA-regulated repair and overhaul operations within the aviation or aerospace industry.

  • Experience developing manufacturing work instructions and standardized test procedures.

  • Previous experience training or mentoring technicians.

  • Experience supporting prototype development and new product introductions (NPI).

  • Demonstrated ability to improve manufacturing processes and recommend engineering solutions.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing environment where you'll work with advanced aerospace electronic systems and precision assemblies. The role may involve:

  • Exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, machinery, and varying temperatures.

  • Extended periods of detailed inspection and visual concentration.

  • Fine manual dexterity and precise hand-eye coordination.

  • Use of specialized tools and electronic test equipment.

  • Occasional lifting and material handling.

  • Adherence to all applicable health and safety requirements.
