What is an Electron Developer job?

An Electron Developer is responsible for building cross-platform desktop applications using Electron, a framework that allows developers to create native applications using web technologies like JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. They work with front-end and back-end technologies, integrate APIs, and optimize performance to ensure a seamless user experience. Electron developers often collaborate with designers and other engineers to develop and maintain applications across Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of an Electron Developer?

As an Electron Developer, your daily tasks often include developing new features for desktop applications, fixing bugs, optimizing performance, and integrating APIs or back-end services. You’ll work closely with UI/UX designers to ensure a smooth user experience, and collaborate with back-end developers or QA teams to maintain application reliability. Participating in code reviews, writing automated tests, and staying updated with the latest Electron updates are also common responsibilities. This role offers a mix of independent coding and team-based problem-solving in a dynamic, project-driven environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Electron Developer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electron Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, along with experience in building cross-platform desktop applications. Familiarity with the Electron framework, debugging tools, source control systems like Git, and sometimes Node.js libraries is typically required. Effective communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with designers and back-end engineers set exceptional Electron Developers apart. These skills ensure the delivery of seamless, robust desktop applications that meet both technical and user experience standards.

Job description

Overview

PDF Solutions (NASDAQ: PDFS) is seeking a Field Escalation Support Electrical Systems Engineer to join the team focusing on developing a cutting-edge electron beam inspection tool (eProbe®).  These tools are basically high-speed scanning electron microscopes (SEM) used at 300mm semiconductor wafer fabs to implement PDF’s Design-for-Inspection (DFI) methodology used in yield ramp and manufacturing control.

The Field Escalation Support Electrical Systems Engineer is a subject matter expert who provides advanced, on-site, and remote technical support for complex electrical issues that the primary field service team cannot resolve. He/she serves as the point contact of technical escalation for complex electrical and electronic system malfunctions in eProbe® tools at customer sites (fabs). This expert troubleshoots, diagnoses, and implements solutions for system-level issues involving electrical systems such as high-voltage/low-voltage power supplies, e-beam column control/detection systems, motion control systems, etc. , ensuring minimal equipment downtime and high customer satisfaction. The role requires deep expertise in e-beam technology and electrical engineering principles.

Responsibilities
  • Technical Escalation Interface and Advanced Troubleshooting & Resolution: Act as the primary liaison between the field service teams, customers, and internal electrical engineering team for critical, unresolved electrical technical issues. Generate, update, and refine escalation action plans and root-cause models. Lead failure analysis and conduct root cause analysis of field failures related to electrical systems, power electronics, and control systems using advanced diagnostic equipment.
  • Continuous Improvement: Provide feedback to electrical engineering team on field performance and recurrent issues to influence future product development and service improvements.
  • Installation, Upgrades, System Maintenance, Repair: When needed, support the installation and commissioning of new eProbe® systems and perform upgrades related to electrical sub-systems on existing equipment at customer sites. Perform hands-on repairs, calibration, adjustments, and testing on complex electrical components, printed circuit boards, high-voltage systems, etc.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Transfer: Prepare comprehensive technical reports, document engineering changes, maintain detailed service records, and contribute to internal knowledge bases and training materials for field teams.

Qualifications
  • Education:Degree in electrical engineering, physics, or an equivalent engineering field. Bachelor’s degree with 10 years’ industry experience or master’s degree with 8 years’ industry experience or doctoral degree with 4 years’ industry experience.
  • Experience: Proven experience in field engineering or electronic system design and development, preferably within the semiconductor or electron microscopy industry. Hands-on experience with e-beam products, high-voltage equipment, precision electronics, and high vacuum electronics is highly preferred.
  • Travel (30~40%): Willingness and ability to travel frequently, both domestically and internationally, often on short notice.
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing complex electrical issues.
    • Proficiency in using electronic test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.).
    • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
    • Familiarity with digital and analog circuit design principles, control systems, and electron beam diagnostics instrumentation.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, strong attention to detail, project management capabilities, and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and under pressure.
  • Work Environment: Ability to work in a cleanroom environment for extended periods.
