Job description

Electrician III - Bar Harbor
Electrician work is performed in a highly regulated critical environment that supports data centers, live animal colonies and sensitive research facilities on a 24/7 basis. These systems regulate environmental conditions required for research integrity and animal welfare. Failures or incorrect operation can lead to loss of research data, interruption of scientific operations, or harm to animals. Technicians at all levels are responsible for the operation, maintenance, modification, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial & industrial Electrical systems including primary (high voltage) and secondary circuits, Normal and Emergency Power distribution, UPS, Co-Generation systems, Fire Protection Systems, Security Systems, Audio-Visual Systems, and other related systems as required by departmental needs.
Electrician Level III: All Level II duties plus oversee contractors on capital and operational projects, develop & issue bid specifications, create & update engineering specifications, writes standard operating procedures, participates in long range capital planning and evaluates 3rd party training programs, and mentors & leads junior technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently operate, troubleshoot, calibrate, install and repair electrical distribution and generation systems and associated equipment.
  • Lead small-scale installations and commissioning of related systems.
  • Support project planning and coordination with contractors and engineers.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Technician I staff.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional safety, environmental, and security standards.
  • Utilize computer applications including a CMMS to document maintenance activities, generate reports, checklists, and other documents.
  • Participate in rotating on-call shifts and respond to on-campus emergencies within one hour on a 24/7 basis. Perform other duties as assigned, including shift work on nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Occasional travel may be required for training and/or support of maintenance activities at other sites.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Expert-level knowledge of Electrical principles.
  • Strong analytical skills for effective problem-solving.
  • Able to operate and maintain a complex electrical distribution and generation system in critical environments, utilize CMMS, read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
  • Demonstrates a willingness and ability to quickly learn and apply new technical skills in facility maintenance and operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and documentation.
  • Independently resolve complex technical issues, train junior technicians on standard maintenance procedures, provide expert design support and consistently exhibit initiative and sound judgment while troubleshooting with minimal supervision.
  • In addition to Electrician II competencies, Electrician III Technicians must demonstrate a proven track record of exceptional work ethic, strategic thinking, strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience working in an industrial or commercial environment.
  • Must be able to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects and job-related materials and/or equipment.
  • Must be able to enter confined spaces, climb stairs & ladders, bend, squat or crouch, crawl, kneel, stoop, stretch and stand and/or work in cramped areas for prolonged periods of time.

Certifications:
  • State of Maine Master Electrician License. Certification in confined space entry or ability to qualify within 6 months.

Pay Range: $38.54-$55.89
