Job description

The opportunity:

We are seeking an Intermediate or Senior Electrical Technologist to join our growing engineering team in our Lethbridge office. This is an opportunity to work on meaningful municipal infrastructure projects that improve the reliability, safety, and sustainability of water and wastewater systems throughout southern Alberta. This position is based in Lethbridge and provides the opportunity to support municipalities across southern Alberta. While most work is completed from our office, periodic travel to project sites will allow you to see projects through construction, commissioning, and successful operation.

Working alongside experienced engineers, technologists, and commissioning specialists, you will contribute to the planning, design, construction, and startup of upgrades to water treatment plants, wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, reservoirs, lift stations, and other critical infrastructure.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Prepare electrical design drawings and construction packages using AutoCAD.
  • Develop single-line diagrams, power distribution layouts, cable schedules, MCC layouts, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
  • Assist with the design of:
    • Medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems
    • Motor control centres (MCCs)
    • Variable frequency drives (VFDs)
    • Standby power systems
    • Instrumentation and control systems
    • PLC and SCADA infrastructure
  • Perform field investigations and condition assessments of existing facilities.
  • Coordinate designs with mechanical, process, structural, and civil disciplines.
  • Prepare technical specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents.
  • Support construction administration, shop drawing reviews, commissioning, and plant startups.
  • Conduct site inspections and assist with troubleshooting during construction and commissioning.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal clients and contractors.

Does this sound like you?

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with ASET as a C.Tech. or P.Tech. (or equivalent designation).
  • Intermediate candidates: 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Senior candidates: 10+ years of relevant consulting or industrial experience.
  • Experience preparing electrical drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code and applicable industry standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s licence with the ability to travel occasionally to project sites.

Preferred Experience

Experience with one or more of the following is considered an asset:

  • Municipal water treatment plants
  • Wastewater treatment facilities
  • Pump stations and lift stations
  • Medium-voltage power distribution (4.16 kV and above)
  • Motor control centres and power distribution equipment
  • PLC-based control systems
  • SCADA systems
  • Instrumentation and process control
  • Arc flash studies and electrical coordination
  • Construction support and commissioning
