Job Title: Wireman โ€“ Electrical Gear

(Non-Exempt) Hourly
Location: Cudahy, WI (HQ) Dane, WI
Reports To: Production Manager
Department: Operations

Position Overview:
The Wireman is responsible for the assembly, wiring, and testing of low- and medium-voltage electrical switchgear equipment in accordance with engineering drawings, schematics, and company quality standards. This role requires strong electrical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and efficiently in a production environment.

Essential Functions

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the duties listed below. These functions may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Electrical Assembly & Wiring
    • Assemble and wire electrical switchgear, control panels, and power distribution equipment according to electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of material (BOMs). Coordinate with internal teams and external auditors to prepare for and pass ISO audits.
    • Perform point-to-point wiring, cable routing, labeling, and dressing to meet company and industry standards.
  2. Testing & Verification
    • Verify wiring accuracy against schematics prior to inspection and test.
    • Assist with power-up, troubleshooting, and resolution of wiring-related issues.
    • Correct wiring discrepancies and rework as required.
  3. Quality & Documentation
    • Follow work instructions, quality procedures, and safety guidelines during all phases of assembly.
    • Complete required production documentation, checklists, and inspection records accurately and timely.
    • Support in-process, final, and customer inspections as needed.
    • Ensure all assemblies meet internal quality standards prior to shipment.
  4. Trouble Shooting & Problem Solving
    • Identify wiring errors, component issues, or installation problems and take corrective action.
  5. Training & Development:
    • Work with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve electrical issues.
    • Provide feedback to engineering on drawing discrepancies or opportunities for improvement.
  6. Safety & Compliance
    • Follow all electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
    • Support compliance with OSHA, UL, ISO and other applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
  7. Continuous Improvement & Team Support
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor.
    • Suggest process improvements to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
    • Support training and mentoring of junior wiremen as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience in electrical wiring, panel building, or switchgear assembly in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.
  • Basic understanding of electrical theory, wiring methods, and component identification.

Physical Demands, Work Environment ,and Additional Information

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to handle tools, materials, and components. The employee may be required to lift, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

This role is performed in a manufacturing environment and may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, noise, and varying temperatures. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment is required.
