Job description

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, POWER SYSTEMS (STARLINK)

SpaceX is leveraging our experience building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world's largest satellite constellation and most advanced broadband internet system. We provide reliable and fast internet to millions of users worldwide, including populations with little or no connectivity, rural communities, aircraft, watercraft, and places where existing services are unreliable, too expensive, or disconnected by natural disasters. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system, thousands of satellites and consumer antennae that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing. The Starlink team is seeking out the best-in-class professionals to maximize Starlink's potential for communities and businesses around the globe.

As an Electrical Engineer on this team, you will work with a group of elite engineers and specialists across multiple disciplines to design, build, and activate infrastructure that will enable SpaceX to achieve its long-term mission. This team is responsible for the delivery of large capital projects to various internal customer groups across the company. This position is based out of the Bastrop, Texas.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate and grow with a multi-disciplinary infrastructure project team by performing power-specific engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities for a variety of critical and fast-paced company projects
  • Develop and issue drawings, design documentation, and reports for manufacturing, industrial, and commercial type projects
  • Write, negotiate, and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close-out
  • Coordinate with electrical utility provider for design/engineering to ensure reliable power service to critical site infrastructure
  • Interact with engineers, contractors, fabricators, and project stakeholders

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology
  • 3+ years of professional experience with the design and/or build of commercial or industrial power systems

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of years of professional experience in a similar role with electrical and power distribution systems (<600Vac)
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Working knowledge of delta/wye transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, building lighting, building construction specifications, and facility grounding
  • Experience with critical power infrastructure including UPS systems, backup generators, and automatic transfer switches
  • Experience creating and implementing process/design solutions with minimal impact on business operations
  • AutoCAD/Revit - beginner to intermediate skill level
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Code, National Fire Protection Association, and International Building Code
  • Ability to read and understand power and control schematics and technical equipment operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs), industrial pumps, MODBUS communication, medium-voltage distribution and control panel design and production
  • Ability to quickly assess an issue and assist technicians with troubleshooting and repair
  • Working knowledge of power coordination and arc flash 

 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physical ability to perform hands-on work in various environments, including heat, cold, rain, and tight quarters
  • Ability to work onsite at our Bastrop, TX facility (Remote work not considered)
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted
