Job description

Avionics Integration & Test Engineer

About Gravitics

At Gravitics, we're not exploring space—we're building it. We're creating the infrastructure for a thriving space economy, enabling humanity to flourish beyond Earth. Our vision is bold, but we're not just dreamers; we're doers. We design and manufacture large-scale orbital structures that enable commercial operations while meeting the requirements of defense and government missions.
Our systems are built to scale and built to last — bridging commercial innovation with mission-critical performance. If you're ready to lay the foundations for a new era in space, embrace a culture of relentless learning and innovation, and contribute to a future where humanity's reach extends farther, Gravitics is the place for you. Let's build the future together.

About the Role

We're looking for exceptional engineers with deep electrical expertise to take full ownership of the assembly, integration, and verification of avionics and power systems for large space structures and flight hardware. You'll work closely with Avionics, Software, and Manufacturing teams to ensure systems are brought up safely, correctly, and to mission requirements.

This role spans both hands-on work on the build floor and technical development of electrical test procedures, system checkouts, and integrated operations. You'll be a key contributor from early integration through environmental qualification and delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design, build, integration, and troubleshooting of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) and Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) test systems
  • Develop, refine, and execute detailed electrical test procedures for functional and environmental testing of avionics, power systems, and electronic assemblies
  • Perform subsystem-level testing and end-to-end electrical integration, including monitoring and evaluating telemetry data
  • Conduct functional checkouts, including electrical continuity testing, power-on sequencing, and integrated system operations
  • Troubleshoot and resolve off-nominal electrical behavior in flight hardware and EGSE
  • Interpret electrical schematics, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, and interface control documents (ICDs)
  • Contribute to Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs) and validate test results against design requirements
  • Ensure hardware integration complies with safety standards, configuration control, and quality requirements
  • Support test data review, anomaly documentation, and issue tracking
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, design, quality, and operations teams during build-to-test handoffs
  • Drive continuous improvement of integration processes, test methods, and documentation

About You

You thrive at the intersection of electrical engineering and real hardware. You're hands-on, methodical, and energized by the challenge of bringing complex avionics systems to life on the bench. You troubleshoot with first principles, communicate clearly across teams, and take pride in the rigor that flight hardware demands. You respect procedure and aren't afraid to improve it.

Required Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of experience in integration, test, or systems-focused engineering with a strong electrical focus
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related ABET-accredited engineering discipline
  • Deep understanding of circuit components, digital/analog electronics, power supplies, and avionics architectures
  • Experience writing and executing electrical test procedures for subsystem and system-level hardware
  • Proficiency with electrical test equipment including DMMs, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers
  • Experience with scripting or automation tools for test execution and data collection
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and interface control documents
  • Strong problem-solving skills using first-principles and systematic troubleshooting
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and work around large hardware

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with spacecraft, launch vehicles, or other high-reliability aerospace systems
  • Familiarity with environmental testing including thermal, vibration, shock, and EMI/EMC
  • Experience with EGSE design, cable harness integration, or specialized test rack build-up
  • Knowledge of avionics architectures, bus protocols (Ethernet, RS422, CAN, etc.), and flight software interfaces
  • Experience in SIL and HITL test setups
  • Experience developing work instructions or supporting technicians during integration
    • Background in safety-critical or configuration-controlled environments

Compensation and Benefits

Your level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the considerations of job-related knowledge and skills, education, and direct experience. Salary is just one component of the total employee package, which also includes company equity at an exciting time of company growth, as well as comprehensive medical, 401(k) retirement plan, a generous PTO policy, employee discounts, and more.
