Primary Function:

The Senior Consultant is responsible for reviewing and evaluating the quality of electrical substation design packages to ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, Dashiell quality processes, and customer requirements. This role focuses exclusively on quality assurance, quality control, training development, and continuous improvement within the electrical engineering discipline. The position is remote with periodic travel to Dashiell's Salt Lake City, UT office located at 1750 W 11400 S, Suite 130 South Jordan, UT 84095 and will report to Dashiell's VP of Engineering.

Duties & Responsibilities

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

  • Perform comprehensive QAQC reviews of electrical substation design packages, including drawings, calculations, specifications, and equipment data sheets, to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
  • Perform independent QAQC audits of design packages and engineering deliverables, maintaining a detailed issues log of findings, tracking resolution status, and communicating results to project teams and management.
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve QAQC processes, procedures, and standards to promote consistent, high-quality design deliverables across all offices and groups.
  • Facilitate periodic QAQC feedback meetings with engineering teams to review findings, trends, and corrective actions.
  • Lead or support engineering issues investigations when quality escapes or recurring deficiencies are identified, documenting root causes and recommended corrective actions.
  • Lead the training and development of engineering staff across all offices, including mentoring engineers and supervising engineers to support their continued professional growth and advancement.
  • Support the improvement and implementation of standardized training programs, including development of SharePoint-based course content to supplement existing Dashiell U curriculum.
  • Coordinate with the Vice President and Director of Engineering to standardize project designs, drawing practices, bill of materials (BOM) procedures, and QAQC processes across all offices and groups to reduce errors and improve overall efficiency.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) as needed to support department project requirements.
  • Provide subject matter expert (SME) support on customer calls, technical clarifications, and project-specific quality inquiries as needed.
  • Assist the engineering team with design activities as requested, providing hands-on technical support during periods of reduced QAQC workload.
  • Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

  • By serving as Engineer of Record and providing SME support, you will reinforce Dashiell's reputation as a trusted, technically excellent partner in electrical substation infrastructure.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in electrical substation engineering and design.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE); if registered in a state other than the state of practice, licensure must be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Extensive knowledge of substation design, including equipment sizing, protection and control, grounding, one-line development, and construction drawing packages.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable engineering standards including NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI as they apply to substation design.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify design deficiencies, document findings clearly, and communicate corrective actions to engineering teams.
  • Experience developing or delivering technical training programs, mentoring engineers, or implementing quality standards and procedures.
  • Experience coordinating or standardizing engineering practices across multiple offices, groups, or project teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and interface professionally with engineering teams, management, and customers.
  • Proficiency in common word processing, spreadsheet, and email software; familiarity with SharePoint or similar platforms preferred.
  • Driving is not required for this position; however, occasional travel to Dashiell office locations or project sites may be required.

Preferred

  • Experience in a formal QAQC, quality management, or technical review role within an engineering or EPC environment.
  • Familiarity with document management systems, SharePoint course development, or engineering workflow tools.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing technical discussions or engineering audits.
  • Prior experience serving as Engineer of Record across multiple project types.
