The QA/QC Electrical Technician is responsible for supporting safe, reliable, and compliant electrical installations, repairs, maintenance activities, and capital projects. This role performs quality assurance and quality control inspections of electrical work completed by internal teams and contractors; verifies compliance with approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, company standards, and work procedures; and ensures that inspection findings are documented, communicated, and resolved.The successful candidate will have a strong electrical background, sound safety judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Project Management, HSE, and third-party contractors.
Key Responsibilities- Perform field QA/QC inspections of electrical installations, maintenance work, repairs, upgrades, and construction activities.
- Verify electrical work conforms to approved drawings, one-line diagrams, specifications, scopes of work, company standards, and applicable codes and regulations.
- Inspect electrical equipment and installations, including, as applicable: Motor control centers, switchgear, panels, transformers, generators, and UPS systems. Motors, VFDs, starters, disconnects, breakers, relays, and control systems. Cable trays, conduit, cable terminations, grounding and bonding systems. Lighting, receptacles, heat trace, hazardous-area equipment, and instrumentation interfaces.
- Review contractor work packages, inspection and test plans, commissioning checklists, turnover packages, redlines, test reports, and quality documentation.
- Witness and document electrical testing activities, including continuity, insulation resistance/megger, grounding, functional testing, loop checks, motor rotation checks, and equipment startup/commissioning support.
- Identify nonconforming work, document deficiencies, issue punch-list items, and verify corrective actions are completed before closeout.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, photographs, checklists, reports, and supporting documentation.
- Participate in pre-job planning, job hazard analyses, field walkthroughs, constructability reviews, and project meetings.
- Support development and improvement of electrical QA/QC procedures, inspection checklists, and quality standards.
- Verify that electrical work is performed in accordance with electrical safe-work practices, lockout/tagout requirements, PPE requirements, and applicable energized-work controls.
- Communicate quality concerns, safety concerns, schedule risks, and recurring workmanship issues to supervisors and project stakeholders.
- Support root-cause reviews of recurring failures, installation defects, equipment issues, or contractor quality concerns.
- Assist with evaluation of contractor performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Promote a culture of quality, accountability, continuous improvement, and stop-work authority.
- High school diploma or GED.
- [10+] years of industrial electrical, electrical construction, electrical maintenance, commissioning, inspection, or related experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of industrial electrical systems, installation practices, troubleshooting, and maintenance requirements.
- Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards, which may include National Electrical Code (NEC). NFPA 70E electrical safety requirements. OSHA electrical requirements. NEMA, IEEE, API, and/or company electrical standards, as applicable.
- Experience interpreting electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel schedules, loop drawings, and equipment documentation.
- Familiarity with electrical testing methods and documentation requirements.
- Ability to identify workmanship issues, nonconforming installations, and potential electrical safety hazards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and electronic document-management systems.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field locations, as required.
- Ability to meet job-related physical requirements, including working outdoors, climbing stairs/ladders, walking uneven terrain, and wearing required PPE.
- Journeyman Electrician license, Master Electrician license, or equivalent electrical trade qualification.
- Experience in oil and gas, energy, chemical processing, utilities, manufacturing, pipeline, midstream, or other industrial environments.
- Experience with medium-voltage systems, hazardous-area classifications, VFDs, PLCs, instrumentation, controls, or automation systems.
- Electrical inspection, commissioning, construction-management.
- Knowledge of NEC Codes Recommended Practices and industry construction/commissioning standards.
- Experience working with EPC contractors, electrical contractors, project teams, and commissioning groups.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance-management systems, quality-management systems, or project-document control tools.
- Safety Leadership: Consistently applies electrical safe-work practices and intervenes when unsafe conditions are identified.
- Attention to Detail: Thoroughly reviews work quality, documentation, and installation requirements.
