Job Summary
The Purchasing & Logistics Specialist supports manufacturing operations by ensuring the timely and accurate availability of materials required for production. This position plans, procures, expedites, and coordinates materials while proactively identifying supply risks and resolving shortages before they affect production schedules, customer commitments, or operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and procure materials, components, and supplies required to support production operations.
- Prepare, issue, maintain, and monitor purchase orders for accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery.
- Evaluate supplier pricing, lead times, availability, delivery performance, and overall service levels.
- Coordinate material requirements with production schedules, inventory levels, and operational priorities.
- Monitor material availability and identify potential shortages, delays, or supply-chain risks.
- Track and expedite open purchase orders and critical materials to support production requirements.
- Coordinate with suppliers to resolve late deliveries, order discrepancies, quality concerns, and other material-related issues.
- Take ownership of shortage resolution and communicate recovery plans to appropriate stakeholders.
- Coordinate inbound material flow and support the timely receipt of materials.
- Maintain accurate purchasing, supplier, and material information within the applicable ERP or MRP system.
- Communicate material risks, delivery updates, shortages, and corrective action plans to Operations, Production, Engineering, and other departments.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to align purchasing activities with production and business priorities.
- Monitor key performance indicators related to material availability, purchase-order accuracy, shortage resolution, production downtime, and supplier performance.
- Identify and implement process improvements that strengthen purchasing effectiveness, supplier performance, and material availability.
- Maintain organized purchasing records, reports, and supporting documentation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned based on operational needs.

Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and follow-through capabilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with suppliers, production personnel, and cross-functional departments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel.
Preferred:
- One to three years of experience in purchasing, procurement, material planning, logistics, supply-chain coordination, or a related role.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Experience using ERP or MRP systems.
- Experience creating and managing purchase orders and coordinating supplier deliveries.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and document handling.
- Occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, and movement between office and production areas.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
- Visual acuity to view computer screens, review reports, and read purchasing and production documents.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, through email, and through other electronic communication platforms.
- Ability to work periodically in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment when entering designated production areas.
