Electrical Project Engineers focus on managing electrical projects from planning to completion, coordinating teams, and ensuring project specifications are met. Electrical Design Engineers concentrate on developing electrical system designs, creating schematics, and ensuring compliance with standards. Both roles require similar certifications but differ mainly in their daily responsibilities and work environments.
An electrical project engineer supervises the development and installation of the electrical engineering systems for a specific project. Typical job duties involve obtaining the proper tools and materials, developing a design plan, assigning tasks to other workers, adhering to all technical and safety requirements, and staying within budget. This career requires an extensive background in electrical engineering or project management and at least a bachelor’s degree in business management, construction management, or engineering. Additional qualifications typically include strong management skills, experience with industry computer programs, knowledge of cable systems, and the ability to work as part of a larger team. Many electrical project engineers are certified engineers.

Lead the Systems That Power Critical Infrastructure
At FST Technical Services, we ensure the most complex facilities in the world perform exactly as designed. From data centers to advanced manufacturing environments, our work sits at the intersection of engineering precision and real-world execution.
We are looking for a Senior Electrical Commissioning Project Engineer who can lead from the front, solve complex technical challenges, and drive commissioning outcomes in high-stakes environments.
Why This Role Stands Out
This is not a checklist-driven commissioning role.
This is a position for someone who:
• Owns outcomes, not just tasks
• Understands systems holistically, not in silos
• Can operate independently while leading others
You will play a direct role in ensuring critical systems are designed correctly, installed properly, and perform under real-world conditions.
What You’ll Do
Project Leadership & Execution
• Lead commissioning activities across the full project lifecycle
• Execute and oversee functional testing, factory witness testing, and on-site validation
• Manage multiple assignments while maintaining schedule, budget, and quality expectations
• Interpret contract documents to identify risks and opportunities
Technical Expertise & Problem Solving
• Evaluate electrical distribution systems and building system interconnectivity
• Troubleshoot system performance issues in real time
• Review design documentation and submittals
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
• Lead commissioning meetings and communicate findings
• Serve as a trusted partner to clients and contractors
Operational Contributions
• Complete field reports, documentation, and time management
• Support scheduling and revenue targets
Team Development
• Mentor junior engineers and support training initiatives
What You Bring
Core Qualifications
• Electrical Engineering degree or Qualified Electrician background
• 7+ years in electrical systems OR 3+ years commissioning
• Data center or mission-critical experience
Technical Capabilities
• Experience with electrical distribution, HVAC systems, controls, fire alarm, and automation
• Ability to read construction drawings and specifications
Professional Skills
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Ability to lead meetings and manage multiple priorities
Physical Requirements
• Ability to work in field environments, climb ladders, and lift ~30 lbs
Preferred
• EIT, CEM, LEED, OSHA 30, BIM experience
Travel Requirements
Regular travel to project sites with potential for broader U.S. travel. Must be able to work on-site as required.
Why FST
At FST, you are part of a team that values execution, accountability, and expertise. Strong performers are recognized, and engineers have opportunities to grow into leadership roles.
Salary Range: $130,000 to $170,000
FST Technical does not offer employment-based visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.
