Opportunity Summary
The Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls, (EI&C) Technician at the APEX Power Co Project is essential to plant operations, calibrating, testing, and troubleshooting instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment, including PLCs, DCS, SCADA, turbines, engines, and BESS. This role ensures reliability and efficiency through preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, optimizing plant systems and electrical networks. By collaborating with engineers and following safety and environmental standards, the EI&C Technician helps improve performance, minimize downtime, and support overall plant success.
As EI&C Technician, your responsibilities specific to the Pre-Commissioning Phase include the following functions:
- Participate in plant and system orientation, including instrumentation, control systems, SCADA/DCS, turbines, engines, auxiliary systems, and BESS, while learning operational sequences and safety/environmental procedures.
- Inspect, calibrate, and test instrumentation, control devices, and electrical systems, verifying alarms, interlocks, and readiness to support cold and hot functional tests.
- Assist commissioning engineers and technical teams with functional testing, system startups, and troubleshooting of turbines, engines, and energy storage systems, resolving issues to ensure operational readiness.
- Record pre-commissioning test results, observations, and calibration data; coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams; and implement safe work practices to maintain compliance and minimize risk.
Your scope of responsibility as EI&C Technician includes the following primary functions:
- Calibrate, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and install plant instrumentation and control systems, including control valves, fan dampers, variable speed drives, motors, transmitters, analyzers, and systems specific to gas turbines, reciprocating engines, and integrated energy storage systems (BESS).
- Perform corrective, preventive, predictive, and emergency maintenance on electrical systems, including 13.8 kV and 4160-volt switchgear, motors, control centers, transformers, batteries, inverters, and main generator excitation equipment.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems, conducting inspections, diagnosing faults, fine-tuning programs, and collaborating with engineers to enhance system and process performance across turbines, engines, and storage.
- Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot turbine and engine control systems to ensure safe and efficient operation, collaborating with engineers to resolve issues and improve system performance.
- Install new equipment and system modifications while adhering to safety protocols, technical standards, and industry best practices.
- Coordinate with internal departments and external contractors to ensure efficient maintenance operations, minimize downtime, and provide technical guidance during projects, outages, and upgrades.
- Maintain, clean, and properly store shop equipment, tools, and specialized instrumentation used in electrical and control system maintenance.
- Document plant activities and operational data, including logs of issues, repairs, downtime, calibration records, plant drawings, and updates to databases and vendor information.
- Implement safe work practices, identify hazards, recommend, or initiate corrective actions, and handle hazardous waste such as batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and other regulated materials in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Monitor system performance and analyze operational data for turbines, engines, and BESS, identifying trends and recommending improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and equipment longevity.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and cross-functional collaboration, including assisting with troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and performance optimization to ensure reliable and efficient plant operations.
Complete additional specialist projects and tasks as needed, supporting plant operations, maintenance, and engineering initiatives.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.
Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.
