Job description

US Citizenship Required
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Government Services Department seeks a professional, innovative, and detail-oriented individual for our Power/Electrical Engineering Intern position in Pullman, WA!

We develop custom products and do both basic and applied research for the United States Government. If you enjoy diving deep on the fundamentals of power systems and applying creative problem-solving techniques to challenging problems, you'll enjoy working in our department. We've got an array of interesting research going on that will give you a unique opportunity to put your schoolwork into practice and work hands-on with state-of-the-art test equipment and software.

We're looking for an intern who is able to work part-time in the school year and full-time during the summer. Both undergraduate and graduate interns are welcome. You must be a U.S. Citizen to work in the Government Services Department.

As an Electrical Engineering Intern, a typical day might include the following:

  • Develop and maintain knowledge in SEL processes and technologies.

  • Conduct applied research and design experiments using power system equipment and software.

  • Document and communicate test results.

  • Provide technical support to SEL staff and customers.

This job might be for you if:

  • You are a US Citizen.

  • You have at least two to three years undergraduate studies in electrical engineering.

  • You have the ability to work in person part-time in the school year and full-time during the summer in Pullman, WA.

  • You have working knowledge of modern test equipment, (e.g. power supplies, digital oscilloscope).

  • You have practical knowledge of 3-phase power systems.

We would like to see:

  • Experience programming using MATLAB or Python.

  • Basic understanding of signals and systems.

  • Experience with RTDS/RSCAD, ATP/EMTP-RV, or other power system modeling software.

  • The ability to work in person part-time in Pullman during the school year.

Location

The SEL corporate office is located in Eastern Washington where you'll enjoy an unmatched quality of life. Enjoy the smaller town life: country space, freedom from traffic, easy access to recreational activities in nearby mountains, rivers, and forests, as well as great schools and universities.

Competitive pay. Superior benefits. Inspiring work.

People are at the core of our company and we hire employee-owners. We welcome you to learn more about how we support our interns.

  • School matters. SEL managers work with their interns to arrange flexible schedules that accommodate classes and studying while working part-time during the school year.

  • We challenge and rely on our interns to contribute high-quality work that adds value to our company and gives you an advantage with real-world experiences when seeking jobs after graduation.

  • We aim to bring great talent to SEL and although not guaranteed, interns are frequently hired for full-time roles upon graduation.

  • Ask our team about other intern benefits including wellness resources, community connection, and kickstarting retirement savings.

Pay Range Data

($24.25 - $33.00 per hour)* Our intern pay is determined based on the internship role (the work you would be doing) and your year in school (when you plan to graduate). Talk to your recruiter if you are curious about the rate for your year in school.
