Job description

Teal Drones, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Red Cat Holdings, is a dynamic and growing drone technology company focused on the development and manufacturing of Unmanned Aircraft Systems for use in defense, public safety, and other government security organizations.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Electrical Engineering Manager to manage and lead the electrical engineering team. This role involves team management and overseeing the design, development, and optimization of electronic systems for our unmanned aircraft systems of products. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, and a passion for innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership and Team Management: Direct, mentor and manage a team of electrical engineers, fostering an environment of innovation and excellence. Set clear objectives, manage project timelines, and ensure team accountability.
  • Product Development: Oversee the development of electronic components, systems and subsystems from concept through to production. This includes embedded system design, battery management systems, motor control, and RF communication systems.
  • Design and Innovation: Enable and support the electrical engineering team in creating innovative designs, advanced circuits, and systems to boost drone performance, efficiency, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical, software, and firmware teams to ensure seamless integration of electronic systems and components. Collaborate with manufacturing teams to transition designs into production.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all electrical systems meet industry standards for safety, reliability, and performance. Implement and oversee testing procedures to validate designs.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of and ensure compliance with all relevant aviation and electrical engineering regulations and standards.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the strategic direction of the company by advising on technology trends, potential areas for innovation, and long-term product roadmaps.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 7 years in electrical engineering with at least 4 years in a leadership role.
    • Experience in the drone, aerospace, or a closely related industry is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in areas such as PCB design, embedded electronics, signal processing, RF design and control systems.
    • Knowledge of embedded systems, particularly those used in flight control.
    • Experience with CAD tools and PLM systems. (e.g., Altium, Arena)
    • Strong technical problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
    • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
    • Ability to influence technical decisions across cross-functional teams.
    • Strong project planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
    • Experience managing engineering projects, schedules, budgets, and resources.
    • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced product development environment.
    • Understanding of engineering verification methodologies and product qualification processes.
    • Experience in defining technical requirements from high-level customer and product requirements.
    • Experience leading new product introduction (NPI) efforts and supporting manufacturing scale-up activities.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven track record of leading teams effectively, managing projects from inception to completion, and driving innovation.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for cross-departmental collaboration and stakeholder management.
