The Baker Company is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Supervisor to lead and support the design, development, and continuous improvement of electrical systems for our industry-leading laboratory equipment. This role combines hands-on engineering with team leadership, project coordination, and collaboration across Engineering, Manufacturing, and other departments to deliver safe, reliable, and high-quality products.

SUMMARY:

The Electrical Engineering Supervisor has responsibility for the management and technical direction for the Electrical team consisting of Engineers and Technicians. The supervisor provides technical direction in the development, implementation, revision, and enhancement of products in accordance with applicable codes and standards. The Supervisor is the primary leadership position for both day-to-day and long-term management of the Electrical team including workload management, performance management, and personnel development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct supervision of assigned employees including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Assess staffing needs and make recommendations.
  • Lead the promotion of safety in the department and lead safety projects/activities.
  • Direct the activity of subordinates to correctly follow work instructions and procedures. Actively review procedures and determine key improvements within and across departments. Develop and implement plans for improvements. Understand ISO-9001 structure and be able to represent department in internal and external audits.
  • Direct the activities of team members to focus on quality. Represent department at Customer Complaint meetings and facilitate issue resolution.
  • Assign work tasks and follow up for effectiveness. Monitor KPIs and communicate results to direct reports and internal customers.
  • Lead new process implementations and ensure compliance.
  • Participate in monthly cost center and project report-outs.
  • Participate in annual budgeting process.
  • Prepare/direct the preparation of electrical engineering drawings, schematics, and standards. Knowledgeable and fluent with CAD systems. Possess a strong base of engineering technical knowledge. Understand regulatory standards, including applicable UL, CE, and regional requirements.
  • Coordinate ECRs.
  • Coordinate ERP/Configurator interactions.
  • Understand ERP for engineering, sales order configuration, case management.
  • Ensures the successful transition of new product concepts into commercialized products managed with a product lifecycle management and project management framework.
  • Works with development and commercial teams to pursue and maintain intellectual property including patents, trademarks, copy rights, trade secrets, etc.
  • Knowledge of Biosafety Cabinets, NSF, UL fluid flow, mechanical and electric subsystems.
  • Working knowledge of Lean concepts including 5-S, Standard Work, Quick Changeover, Value Stream Mapping, etc. Lead Kaizen events.
  • Understand stage-gate process and participate in task deliverables.
  • Manage projects and guide team members in Project Management.
  • Provide value to our customers by using and encouraging associates to use Lean tools and concepts to identify and eliminate waste in all forms (scrap/rework, transportation, motion, waiting, inventory, over production, over processing, and under-utilization of people).
  • Reinforce associatesโ€™ awareness of keeping the customerโ€™s end use and needs in mind with every task they do.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Sales Orders process time/lead time in Engineering
  • Change Requests (CRโ€™s):
  • Process time/Lead time in Engineering
  • On time to the effectivity date of the CR
  • Engineering Requests via case calls (process time/lead time)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be able to sit at computer for extended periods of time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. Degree in Relevant Engineering discipline
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as an Electrical Engineer preferred
  • Five (5) yearsโ€™ experience as a technical supervisor / manager required.
  • Strong leadership
  • Electrical Engineering experience with:
    • Motors
    • Machine control systems
    • Hardware & Software development
  • Prior experience with intellectual property including reading and writing patents, understanding of trademarks, etc. a plus
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers as well as at all levels of the company.
  • Working experience with Project Management methodologies. PMP certification a plus
  • Proficiency in MS project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
