Job Description

Supervise Engineering operations and responsible for the repairs, maintenance, upkeep and replacement of the property's refrigeration and heat/air conditioning equipment, in accordance with hotel standards, and in compliance with the city/state/federal inspection codes (i.e. health and sanitation, fire/life safety, etc.).ย ย  Participate in the preventive maintenance program of all building equipment, guestrooms, meeting rooms, ballrooms, and all areas of the hotel (i.e. laundry/valet, kitchens, stewarding, restaurants, outlets, fitness center, pool, carriage entrance, etc.).ย  Will assist in other areas of Engineering as assigned.

  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
  • Maintain some working knowledge and understanding of all the systems (i.e. electrical distribution and lighting, TV antenna, fire/life safety and emergency generator, central plant, swimming pool, laundry/valet, kitchen HVAC and refrigeration, etc.) associated with the all hotel operations/maintenance.
  • Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
  • Maintain positive guest relations at all times.
  • Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization, and safe condition of assigned work areas.
  • Discuss daily work assignments with the Chief Engineer, and assign daily tasks, priorities, and special projects to team members.
  • Assist the team in performing tasks, projects, taking house calls, and attend to immediate deficiency calls.
  • Train and coach team members, including new hires.
  • Participate in the creation of job task checklists and training plans.
  • Organize materials, tools and equipment to perform daily assignments.
  • Maintain time lines and work schedule in accordance with the preventive maintenance program.
  • Check work orders and Engineering service request log for maintenance deficiency problems.ย  Make rounds checking these problem areas and note any information needed or safety concerns in the hotel.
  • Schedule work in accordance with preventive maintenance program in rooms, coordinating with the Executive Housekeeper and Front Office.
  • Maintain par stock levels of standard fixtures and other supplies, and assist with ordering process.
  • Operate, maintain and repair or replace of the property's heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems which include:
  1. air handling units
  2. controls
  3. filters
  4. dampers
  5. bearings
  6. coils (heat/cooling)
  7. heaters
  8. thermostats
  9. pulleys
  • Operate, maintain and repair or replace of the property's refrigeration equipment/units, which include but not limited to:
  1. coolers
  2. freezers
  3. ice machines
  4. water fountains/coolers
  5. mechanical equipment, pneumatic controls and air compressors systems:
  6. oil separators
  7. water separators and dryers
  8. air dryer cooling systems
  9. air regulators
  10. cooling tower operation
  11. hot water heater safety and controls
  • Assist with kitchen services, including but not limited to, the operation of maintenance, repair or replacement of the property's kitchen equipment and fire/life safety systems.
  • Assist with plumbing services, including but not limited to, the operation, maintenance and repair or replacement of the property's plumbing equipment and systems, and in banquet electrical setup.
  • Assist with electrical services, including but not limited to, the operation, maintenance and repair or replacement of the property's electrical equipment and systems.
  • Assist with fire/life safety system services, including but not limited to, the operation, maintenance and repair or replacement of the property's fire/life safety equipment and systems, which includes fire pump and emergency generator.
  • Assist with laundry/valet services, including but not limited to, the operation, maintenance, repair or replacement of the property's laundry/valet equipment and systems.
  • Perform plant operations services, including but not limited to, the economical operation of maintenance, repair or replacement of the property's plant equipment and systems, which include chillers and cooling towers.
  • Maintain on all pumps including chilled water and condenser pumps, packing glands and drip lines, couplings, alignments, greasing of motors, and changing or repair of motors and pumps.
  • Changes filter banks and maintain electrostatic filters according to schedule.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in engineering.
  • Working knowledge of the systems associated with the guestrooms/meeting rooms' operations/maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of refrigeration and HVAC equipment.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, appliance operational problems and mechanical background.
  • Knowledge of physics, and able to read gauges.
  • Knowledge of the fire/life safety and emergency generator, central plant, laundry/valet, swimming pool, kitchen, etc.
  • Knowledge of proper chemical handling and disposal.
  • Working knowledge of:
  1. health codes
  2. plumbing codes
  3. electrical codes
  4. local mechanical codes
  5. national/local fire codes
  6. water treatment program
  7. blue prints and wiring schematics
  8. power and hand tools, meters, gauges, etc. as it relates to the technical trades
  9. plant equipment
  • Fluency in job related English, both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Provide legible communication and directions.
  • Compute basic mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers in processing charges).
