This is a remote/virtual position. Candidate can be based anywhere within the United States.

Sargent & Lundy is one of the largest and most experienced power industry engineering and consulting firms. We have a unique and exciting opportunity to join our Consulting group in the role of Electrical Engineering Lead for renewable energy projects. We are seeking detail-oriented professionals with solar and battery energy storage electrical engineering design experience.

This position is being added to support the continued growth of the Sargent & Lundy Consulting group, particularly in the renewable energy, battery energy storage, and utility planning / advisory practice areas. Our Consulting group works with clients across the United States and in numerous other countries.

This position will require a great deal of face-to-face interaction with power plant developers and owners, as well as lenders and investors, during the execution of consulting services work for the firm. The work environment in our Consulting group is fast-paced, dynamic, and interesting.

This position in Sargent & Lundy's Consulting group will require you to be the electrical engineering lead for our owner's engineer engagements for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects developed by our electric utilities and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) clients. Common tasks include:

  • Preparing solar and battery energy storage EPC RFP packages and associated technical specifications
  • Evaluating EPC proposals to assist selection of preferred EPC contractors
  • Providing technical support during negotiations of EPC contract
  • Preparing or reviewing specifications for key equipment such as main power transformer, BESS/ PV collection system components
  • Reviewing EPC contractor's electrical engineering design drawing packages and supporting calculations
    • Renewable low-voltage (both DC and AC) systems
    • AC collection system for solar and batteries
    • Collector substation and interconnecting substation expansion
    • Gen-tie transmission
Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering design of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects as part of EPC team or Owner's Engineer.
  • Evidence of at least one utility scale project direct engineering experience during development of IFC design.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work with and guide others.

  • Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required.
  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.

Compensation Range$131,960.00 - $205,330.00Transparency StatementSargent & Lundy discloses compensation ranges that comply with all local and state regulations.
