Company Description Gulf Coast Electrical Design (GCED) provides comprehensive professional electrical engineering, design, and consulting services across a wide range of building types, including general assembly, office, medical, retail, residential, industrial, and restaurant occupancies. With more than 40 years of experience, GCED also delivers specialized solutions for generator systems, solar installations, and home automation projects. The company is recognized for quality designs, strong customer service, and timely project completion. GCED prioritizes state-of-the-art, cost-effective, and code-compliant electrical solutions tailored to client needs. Its customers include architects, owners, general contractors, and electrical contractors throughout the Gulf Coast region.

Role Description The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for developing electrical system designs and documentation for commercial, residential, and specialty projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. Day-to-day tasks include preparing load calculations, panel schedules, power distribution layouts, lighting plans, and one-line diagrams, as well as coordinating with project managers, architects, and contractors to refine design requirements and resolve technical issues. The role involves reviewing drawings and specifications, performing site visits when needed, and supporting project timelines from concept through construction. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Clearwater, FL, with a combination of in-office work and some work-from-home flexibility. The Electrical Design Engineer will contribute to continuous improvement of design standards and support the integration of new technologies such as solar and home automation systems.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Electrical Engineering principles, including electricity fundamentals and applicable codes and standards.
  • Proficiency in Electrical Design and Design Engineering for building systems, including schematics, layout development, and documentation.
  • Experience with power distribution systems, including load calculations, panel design, and coordination of distribution equipment.
  • Ability to use CAD or BIM tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) for electrical drawings and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; EIT or PE licensure is a plus.
  • Relevant experience in building electrical systems design for commercial, residential, or industrial projects.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, and ability to collaborate with architects, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment with time spent in the Clearwater, FL office and some remote work.
