Job Summary
To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we're looking to add a Production Support Engineer located in Columbia, SC.
The Production Support Engineer will provide hands-on engineering support for production and design of critical power equipment (e.g., LV switchgear, PDU, RPP, Databar). This role focuses on resolving build issues, improving product designs, and ensuring accurate, manufacturable engineering outputs.Primary emphasis is on mechanical design and production support, with strong collaboration across electrical and manufacturing teams.
What a typical day looks like:
  • Approve mechanical drawings and design updates within delegated authority.
  • Initiate ECRs/ECOs and define corrective actions for design-related issues.
  • Specify materials, finishes, hardware, and critical tolerances for mechanical components.
  • Production Support
    • Serve as primary engineering support for manufacturing issues (fit, form, function, BOM, drawing discrepancies).
    • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurring build issues.
    • Drive timely resolution of shop floor escalations to maintain production schedules.
  • Design Ownership
    • Create and update 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs for mechanical components and assemblies.
    • Ensure designs meet DFM/DFS principles, quality standards, and customer requirements.
    • Review and validate designs for manufacturability, tolerances, and integration with electrical systems.
  • Change Management
    • Initiate and implement ECRs/ECOs with clear documentation and traceability.
    • Ensure all design outputs, BOMs, and related documentation remain aligned and controlled.
    • Support continuous improvement of engineering change processes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Partner with electrical engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams to resolve issues and improve designs.
    • Participate in design reviews and production readiness reviews.
    • Support vendor and supplier interactions for component design and issue resolution.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Identify opportunities for standardization, cost reduction, and process improvement.
    • Contribute to design libraries, best practices, and reusable solutions.
    • Support value engineering and product lifecycle improvements.

The experience we're looking to add to our team:
  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in design engineering or production support.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar) and 2D drawings.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing environments (issue resolution, root cause analysis).
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal design, enclosures, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Electro-mechanical system experience (integration of mechanical and electrical components). (prefer)
  • Exposure to critical power equipment (switchgear, PDU, RPP, etc.)( prefer)
  • Familiarity with ECN/ECO processes and PDM systems. (prefer)
  • Knowledge of UL requirements, thermal considerations, and enclosure design constraints. (prefer)
