SBM is seeking a motivated and experienced Mechanical Technologist (Plumbing) to join our Mechanical Engineering Department in London or Kitchener. This role supports the Plumbing Division in the design and delivery of projects across the residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial sectors. 
The successful candidate will assist in preparing detailed plumbing drawings for permit and construction, coordinate with clients and consultants, and contribute to the overall success of each project through proactive communication, organization, and technical diligence. The position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, while also taking ownership of independent project tasks, design documentation, and site coordination responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Prepare and coordinate plumbing design drawings for permit and construction under the direction of the Project Engineer or Project Lead. 
  • Lead or assist in developing design briefs, verification requirements, and project checklists to ensure quality and compliance with standards. 
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal teams to maintain design intent and project milestones. 
  • Review and issue shop drawings and support construction services with site reviews and technical clarification. 
  • Attend design and coordination meetings; record and distribute meeting minutes to the MEP Project Lead. 
  • Monitor project scope, timelines, and deliverables; identify and communicate potential cost or schedule impacts to the Project Lead. 
  • Assist with fee proposal preparation, pricing reviews, and peer review coordination, as required. 
  • Assist with occupancy and project sign-off activities to confirm systems align with design and specifications. 
  • Document all significant project correspondence and ensure records are properly stored for project close-out. 
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Plumbing or MEP Division Leads.  
Qualifications: 
  • 4-8 years of relatable experience in building design, specifically plumbing design and/or installation for commercial and multi-unit residential buildings preferred. 
  • Diploma in Mechanical Technology, Architectural Technology, or related program. 
  • Strong organizational and troubleshooting skills, with a proven track record of overcoming obstacles and delivering results 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects across various stages simultaneously, maintaining momentum and focus 
  • Meticulous attention to detail, with a strong commitment to accuracy, consistency, and structured organization 
  • Self-motivated and highly independent, while also thriving in collaborative, team-oriented environments 
  • Agile and adaptable, able to pivot quickly in response to shifting priorities and dynamic project needs 
  • Skilled at balancing and prioritizing concurrent projects, ensuring timely delivery without compromising quality

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office; experience in REVIT considered an asset
