As an Electrical Engineer Solar, your daily tasks often include designing solar power systems, conducting site assessments, creating electrical schematics, and ensuring systems comply with codes and regulations. You'll also coordinate with project managers, construction crews, and utility representatives to resolve technical issues and keep projects on track. Reviewing system performance data and troubleshooting operational problems are routine parts of the job. This collaborative and hands-on role is well-suited for professionals who enjoy both technical design and practical fieldwork.
An Electrical Engineer Solar designs, develops, and maintains electrical systems for solar power projects. They work on photovoltaic (PV) systems, ensuring efficient energy conversion, grid integration, and compliance with safety standards. Responsibilities include system design, performance analysis, troubleshooting, and overseeing installations. They collaborate with other engineers, project managers, and contractors to optimize solar energy production. This role requires knowledge of electrical circuits, renewable energy technologies, and industry regulations.
To thrive as an Electrical Engineer Solar, you need strong knowledge of electrical systems, power generation, and renewable energy principles, usually supported by a degree in electrical engineering and relevant experience in solar projects. Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD, PVsyst, and electrical modeling software, along with certifications like NABCEP or a Professional Engineer (PE) license, are highly valued. Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills set top candidates apart. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and compliant solar installations and support successful project execution within multidisciplinary teams.

Job Description
Position Overview
Invenergy is hiring a Project Engineer, Renewable Electrical Engineering (SCADA). This role is on the Invenergy Construction team and is a key driver of how our wind, solar, and battery storage projects come to life. You will lead the end-to-end delivery of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems and associated communications infrastructure, partnering with diverse stakeholders to shape conceptual designs, translate them into detailed designs, and drive procurement, commissioning, acceptance testing, and turnover. Your work will integrate and secure the SCADA/OT/IT ecosystem, including RTUs, controllers, energy management systems, network switches, firewalls, annunciators, and HMIs, ensuring every project starts up safely, reliably, and ready to perform from day one.
Responsibilities
Lead safe, compliant commissioning and startup of SCADA and communications systems for wind, solar, and battery projects. Bring systems online, validate performance through acceptance testing, and deliver a clean turnover to Operations.
Build and secure the communications network that runs the plant: IP plans, protocols, physical network interfaces, and firewall rules across SCADA/OT/IT equipment.
Partner with major stakeholders (plant controller OEMs, transmission operators, generator owners/operators) to configure controls and data paths to meet operational and grid requirements.
Own the energization and commissioning execution plan, define scope, sequence, readiness gates, and risk mitigations while maintaining NERC and project requirements.
Monitor construction progress remotely and via on site visits, support resolution of field issues, attend in person meetings with stakeholders, and provide on-site programming and field support during commissioning when required.
Coordinate with cross functional teams to ensure SCADA deliverables align with overall project requirements and critical path schedules.
Track design schedules, communicate status and risks, and ensure critical dates are met on time.
Maintain system specifications and configurations for SCADA, power plant controllers, RTUs, and IT/OT equipment to improve reliable operation and maintenance.
Oversee delivery of clean, complete as-built turnover packages (schematics, bills of materials, configuration/programming settings) to Operations for long-term maintenance and reliability.
Support technical due diligence with independent engineers and project partners by providing accurate, technical input and evidence.
Stay current on technology and best practices through training, conferences, and continuous learning.
Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership to support team priorities and business needs.
Minimum Qualifications
BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related degree.
4+ years of transmission, distribution, and/or generation SCADA systems experience.
Knowledge of both the physical and software aspects of networking equipment that connect generation assets.
Experience and familiarity with various industrial communication protocols and architectures such as OPC, DNP3, Modbus and EGD.
Experience working around HV/MV electrical infrastructure (substations/switchyards, distribution systems, transmission lines, transformers, relays, meters, CTs, and PTs).
Ability to coordinate and manage multiple concurrent projects.
Considerable knowledge in computer and server operation.
Strong project management skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
