Job description

IMEG is hiring an Electrical Project Engineer in Chicago, IL, to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer on low to moderate complexity projects while collaborating with senior staff on larger and high complexity work. In this role, you will work closely with engineers and consultants to provide electrical engineering solutions and advice that support positive client outcomes, with responsibilities spanning analysis, design, and implementation oversight of building electrical systems. You will also work within project budgets, mentor team members, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
Principal Responsibilities
Lead design efforts for the analysis and design of electrical systems for building projects
Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards
Partner with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and build professional relationships
Support project planning, budgeting, and execution as part of a consulting project team
Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs meet firm, industry, and client standards
Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and electrical engineering best practices, and contribute to innovation efforts
Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and identify potential risks associated with electrical systems
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions
Identify potential project issues and seek guidance from the Project Manager as needed
Support projects through bidding and construction administration phases
Required Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
Professional Engineer (PE) License required
5 years of experience minimum required, 6 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings
Proficient with industry standard engineering software and tools including lighting photometric calculation software such as AGI, Elum Tools, Visual Lighting, or other; power system analysis and design software such as SKM/PTW, Easy Power, or other; and energy compliance software such as ComCheck. Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards
Proficient with the use of reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
Knowledge of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS, BIM software, and CTC Revit Add In Tools; Proficiency of Smart Engineering Design Assist (SET) Tools within Revit for electrical calculations, coordination, properties, etc.
Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
