Job description

Staff Electrical Engineer, EPC

  • Client is seeking an EPC Staff Electrical Engineer to join our EPC team. This role is central to the design of electrical infrastructure for our industrial facilities at multiple locations.

  • Our mission is to build a sustainable circular economy for lithium-ion batteries by transforming recycled materials into high-quality inputs for new batteries.

  • Projects span hazardous occupancy, chemical process/industrial plants, clean and dry spaces, office, and warehouse environments.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Electrical Engineer of Record on assigned projects (Hazardous occupancy, clean and dry spaces, chemical process/industrial plants, office, warehouse) and responsible for producing electrical deliverables (specifications, calculations, permit & construction documents).

  • Design ownership for a wide range of electrical systems including but not limited to medium voltage (up to 34.5 kV) feed to the buildings, low voltage (up to 600V) power distribution, one-line diagrams lighting, lighting control, electrical circuits, raceway, grounding, data and communications.

  • Coordinate with architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, plumbing, industrial, fire & life safety, telecom, security, and other design teams to produce complete Issue for Construction (IFC) packages and technical specifications.

  • Perform short-circuit studies and arc flash calculations using SKM or ETAP to determine IC or kAIC ratings, incident energy, and protective device coordination settings.

  • Design cable tray systems and conduits for raceway routing and perform cable tray fill calculations per NEC requirements.

  • Perform cable ampacity calculations using AmpCalc or similar software to optimize cable size instead of using prescriptive tables from National Electrical Code (NEC).

  • Perform photometric studies using lighting design software and make decisions on optimal lighting levels for projects.

  • Lead code analysis for NEC, IECC, NFPA standards, and other applicable requirements to ensure full code compliance across all deliverables.

  • Lead multi-discipline collaboration on the development of equipment general arrangements, one-line diagrams, utility connections, and material takeoffs.

  • Review conceptual designs from manufacturing engineers and other stakeholders to identify technical and financial risks.

  • Prepare electrical specifications, RFPs for outsourced design, and conduct technical bid evaluations.

  • Review vendor proposals and project-specific vendor drawings.

  • Participate in on-field construction and commissioning activities, serving as the point of contact for technical questions and real-time issue resolution.

Project Management Responsibilities:

  • Provide CA support for RFIs, submittal reviews, change orders, and site inspections.

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external consultants to track scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Prepare engineering cost estimates and project schedules in collaboration with project controls at various design milestones.

  • Perform QA/QC reviews of electrical designs and mentor junior engineers.

  • Contribute to internal design standards, templates, and best practices.

  • Manage project workload and ensure timely delivery of engineering documents.

  • Support strategic initiatives related to grid integration, renewable energy, and energy storage.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited program.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Nevada or eligible for reciprocity. Must get their PE in Nevada and South Carolina within 2 months of start date.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in heavy commercial and industrial sectors, with evidence of exceptional ability.

  • SME in National Electrical Code (NEC), International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), and relevant NFPA standards.

Advanced proficiency in:

  • Revit MEP, AutoCAD, and Navisworks (clash-free design)

  • Bluebeam (markups, reviews, and sessions)

  • SKM or ETAP for short-circuit, arc flash, and protective device coordination studies

Preferred proficiency in:

  • AmpCalc or similar for cable ampacity calculations

  • Highly motivated, proactive, and detail oriented.

  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written, and visual formats at an executive level.

  • A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!
