Job Description
As an Electrical Engineer at Tessenderlo Kerley, your primary focus will be the design of electrical systems for industrial chemical facilities.
Design duties you would be responsible for will include power distribution, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment layout, detailed installation design. Other design tasks related to existing chemical plant operations you could expect to be responsible for are reviewing drawings, creating new drawings, reviewing specification sheets, size equipment for small plant projects and reviewing code requirements of operational facilities.
As part of the Engineering team, you will work in collaboration with other engineering disciplines to complete a variety of tasks.
Key areas of focus you could expect in your day to day work:
Technical
  • Perform short circuit analysis on existing facilities and new projects
  • Arc Flash studies
  • Power studies
  • Review and Redline P&IDs, One-Lines, Spec Sheets, Equipment Drawings
  • Assist senior staff in the development of project proposals.
  • Attend client meetings for the purpose of defining the project scope during a proposal phase and review design development documents during project execution.

Plant Support
  • Troubleshooting signal and electrical problems
  • Assist local IE technicians to address design changes or plant additions
  • Travel onsite for project preparation and execution of project work.
  • Communicate with clients, consultants, project personnel, and inspecting authorities

Design
  • Developing the electrical plans and specifications for small to medium-sized and complex projects with minimal supervision.
  • Sizing for wiring, transformers, cables, feeders, ELOR settings & calculations
  • Review spec sheets for the I&E portions of larger plant expansion projects
  • Develop capital and expense budgets for small and large projects
  • Ability to select and specify various electrical system components including motor control centers, switchgear, transformers, etc.

DCS
  • Control system design & layout

Software
  • Knowledge of how to use ETAP or equivalent software for models and studies (i.e. Power design, Short circuit analysis, Arc Flash studies)
  • Knowledge of Siemens PCS-7, OPTO 22, and APACS systems a plus

Plant support
  • Assist in giving sound engineering guidance/judgment for a safe and successful startup
  • Help develop Turnaround Project Schedules, work on-site during plant turnarounds, and startups implementing electrical and instrumentation projects.

Qualifications
  • Electrical Engineering degree from an accredited university
  • Must possess knowledge of electrical design fundamentals.
  • AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • Navisworks (Freedom) is preferred but not required.
  • Engineering and design experience with power delivery systems for chemical and/or Industrial sectors with the following items: Grounding, lighting, wiring, schematics, panel layouts, heat trace, cable schedules, cable tray.
  • Comfortable working within the scope of a project. Keeping design within the scope and ensuring all aspects of projects meet required codes while preventing scope creep
  • Productivity - Be able to work efficiently and make decisions in a timely manner
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills - Be able to effectively communicate thoughts, ideas, and concepts to other workers outside of the electrical engineering discipline
  • Able to take direction from the department manager and proceed forward with minimal support.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 496, 497, 655, 70B, 70E, IECC.
  • Be able to lead and direct work to contractors for various projects
  • Work Attitude - Work well with others to create a positive atmosphere of team cohesion.
  • Safety - Follow all safety guidelines set by each facility.
  • Be able to manage multiple projects timelines effectively
  • Willingness to travel 20-25% of the time
