Job description

Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) is looking for a hands-on Hardware Debug Engineer to diagnose, troubleshoot, and recover rugged embedded computing hardware. This role supports Production by investigating failures on complex single board computers and system assemblies, often requiring troubleshooting down to the component level.
The Hardware Debug Engineer will use electrical test equipment, product schematics, assembly documentation, software tools, and structured troubleshooting techniques to identify root causes of hardware failures. This position works closely with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, and Design Engineering to resolve individual failures and identify opportunities to improve product quality, manufacturing processes, and product designs.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electronic assemblies and single board computers down to the component level.
  • Perform hands-on electrical and functional testing using laboratory test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, assembly documentation, and test procedures to support troubleshooting.
  • Document troubleshooting activities, findings, and corrective actions.
  • Analyze failure data to identify recurring or systemic issues and provide recommendations for Production, Manufacturing Engineering, and Design Engineering.
  • Develop and improve troubleshooting methods, test procedures, and diagnostic tools.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a required degree.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in hands-on hardware troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Computer proficiency and ability to learn new hardware and software tools.
  • Ability to work onsite from our facility located at 9901 Silicon Prairie Parkway in Verona, WI.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging electronic hardware to the component level.
  • Experience with laboratory test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, or logic analyzers.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and assembly documentation.
  • Experience with surface-mount soldering or component-level electronic repair.
  • Experience with embedded systems, single board computers, or other complex electronic assemblies.

Compensation and Benefits
Extreme Engineering Solutions offers a competitive compensation package with excellent benefits, including:
  • No-deductible, low-copay group health and dental insurance (90% employer paid)
  • Life insurance, short and long-term disability insurance (100% employer paid)
  • Eligibility for health, dental, vision, life/AD&D, and disability insurance benefits on the first day of the month following date of hire
  • Paid time off, plus eight paid holidays a year
  • 401(k) employer match up to 4%. Roth option is available
  • Participation in the employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) at no cost to employees
