Electrical Controls Engineer - Chesterton, IN 
This opportunity is with an established General Contractor that specializes in converting existing Buildings and Structures into complex buildings / industrial complexes and is looking to expand its foothold even further into the Critical Facilities Market. Our client is taking their expertise and focus and applying it towards brownfield data center projects - which is the process for converting an existing building to a data center for the Hyperscale, Colo or Enterprise Marketplace. This company will provide a complete life cycle of solutions that will be custom-fit to the requirements of their client's mission-critical facility. This opportunity provides a career-growth minded role with exciting projects with leading-edge technology and innovation as well as competitive salaries and benefits.

The ideal candidate will have past experience designing electrical power distribution systems, programming of controllers / PLCs as well as GUI design / HMIs for the data center industry. Previous experience with electrical equipment power distribution design as it relates to UPS, PDUs, Switchgears, Wiring Schematics, Panel layout diagrams, etc. Utilize AutoCAD and SolidWorks for basis of engineering design and drawing preparation. Utilize Engineering Drawings and Schematics of electrical construction models and documents. The Electrical Engineer will work with internal and external stakeholders - Sales Reps, Engineering Firms, End-users, from conceptual design through implementation.

Responsibilities:

  • Create designs and plans, provided and gather specifications, and execute assignments in a multidisciplinary electrical engineering design role
  • Lead design for control panels: Control Power, Wiring Schematics, Panel Layout Diagrams, and Relay Logic Diagrams
  • Create Bill of materials (BOMs): instrumentation, sensors, actuators, valves and other field devices
  • Source and Procure Electrical Components and Parts, develop sourcing relationships, manage relations and focus on attaining engineered components for best cost and quality with Electrical Vendors
  • Utilize AutoCAD and SolidWorks for basis of engineering design and drawing preparation
  • Develop electrical construction documents utilizing primarily AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, etc.
  • Create Conceptual Designs as well as estimates of project material and equipment, project specifications, sequence of operations of MEP equipment, gathered from meetings with the client
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of company policies
  • Represent the company in project meetings
  • Design and implement Front end HMIs, DDC and PLC - controller based systems for various projects
  • Lead development of UI / UX configuration standards
  • Develop and improve design configuration, programming, networking, systems architecture, diagnostic standards including IT / OT requirements and interface to match application needs
  • Review / Submit project deliverables per project requirements: AE design drawings, shop drawings, product data, o/m manuals, install instructions, post-project implementation (SOPs and MOPs), etc.
  • Develop fabrication instructions and create standard fabrication requirements
  • Perform PLC programming utilizing various formats and protocols based on customer requirements for the integrated operation of manufactured systems
  • Keep abreast of cutting-edge technology to stay on top of advanced solutions that can improve efficiency and reduce costs on a continuous basis; develop new control formats and platforms for the operation of process systems
  • Provide technical Oversight of OEM / manufacturing requirements for manufacturing personnel that aid in project performance and improve cost structure of work performed
  • Oversee technical compliance and quality control / QC of fabricated modular project
  • Manage electrical engineering and quotation throughput in a fast pace, unique project environment.
  • Effective time management of project design team including forecasting resources and resource coordination
  • Identify potential project scope changes; aid in development of strategies to minimize impact and changes from estimated costs and project deadlines
  • Optimize workflow and deliverables by developing templates, standards, automations, etc.
  • Communicate regularly with internal and external stakeholders, subcontractors, project managers, AEs and commissioning agents on project progress
  • Assist / Develop all project communication and reporting, weekly progress reports, etc.
  • Work with Customer to ensure safe and secure systems to meet best practices
  • Mentor engineers and assist with training and development on software standards to create a learning and growing environment
  • Partner with Sales & Marketing to support existing clients and to go after new business
  • Respond to RFPs, RFIs, RFQs, for various Process Systems, Controls Systems for Fluid Handling, Heat Transfer, and Pumping Systems with engineering proposals to ensure timely completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables including project scope, schedule and budget
  • Develop standard costing for repetitive systems / sub-assemblies for more efficient means of pricing and estimating
  • Manage budget and cost controls to maintain costs within budget for each project partnering with Finance and Operations
  • Assist with any high level support for Customers as necessary
  • Minimal travel to Customer locations as needed

Qualifications:

  • BA / BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or relevant degree
  • Licensed PE / EIT / Certifications a Plus
  • 5 yrs + of engineering experience with industry standards with Electrical Engineering, Automation and Controls Experience relevant to the data center industry
  • Experience integrating PLC / ALC with complex data center / mission critical facilities
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD or SolidWorks
  • Electrical equipment power distribution design as it relates to UPS / Uninterruptible Power Supply, PDUs, Switchgears, wiring schematics, Panel layout diagrams
  • Experience working on complex facilities design for Data Centers a must
  • Previous experience working on Controls Products from companies a plus
  • Experience with Controls systems design as it relates to: Critical HVAC equipment (air-cooled / water cooled chillers, cooling distribution units, cooling towers, adiabatic coolers, Air Handlers, CRAC / CRAH units, liquid cooling systems, containment solutions, etc.)
  • Experience working with common BAS protocols BACnet IP, BACnet MSTP, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, etc.
  • Ability to read and audit one-lines / blueprints / CAD drawings, equipment submittals , layouts and controls diagrams
  • Client facing experience and at times serve as primary point of client contact on various projects
  • Ability to successfully work independently
  • Effective communicator - both oral and written form (tech and non-tech)
  • Proactive, resourceful, delegator and a multitasker
  • Exceptional organizational skills with an attention to detail
  • Results oriented; skilled in completing assignments accurately and in a timely manner
