Job description

About the Role:

The Senior Electrical Engineer will work within the Avtron New Product Development (NPD) team to lead the design, development, and implementation of complex electrical load bank products and components to meet project specifications and industry standards. This role requires overseeing technical aspects of electrical engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The engineer will collaborate closely within the cross-functional team to deliver innovative solutions. Additionally, the Senior Electrical Engineer will mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to enhance team capabilities. Ultimately, this position drives the advancement of electrical engineering initiatives that support the company’s industry leadership position and customer satisfaction.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Concept creation using market and customer requirements data; may participate in voice of customer (VOC) exercises as and when required.
  • Lead the creation of electrical drawing and schematics using suitable CAD packages and or through the Drafting function.
  • Define, lead and support product DFMEAs, validation and prototype testing as required.
  • Creation of engineering technical specifications and BOM’s.
  • Conduct detailed analysis and testing of electrical components to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Creation of test reports, user manuals and technical documents to support future customer product use.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for improvement to enhance our future products by keeping abreast of new and emerging technologies.
  • Ensure product safety and compliance is achieved re. agreed codes & standards (e.g. CE, UL, CSA, and the NEC); Prepares engineering submittals for filing product with agencies to obtain approvals.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues during design, testing, and production phases.
  • Participate in client meetings and present technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Ongoing system and process improvements to enhance the way we work and drive department / business efficiency.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation.
  • Provide technical mentorship and training to junior engineering staff.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in electrical engineering.
  • Proven experience with electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical or similar tools.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE).
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.


Skills: 

  • Proficiency in electrical CAD software such as AutoCAD Electrical or similar schematic tools

Experience:

  • Experience in the energy, power generation, power distribution or related industries is a plus
