Job description

The Position
Port Townsend Paper Company has an opening for an Electrical Engineer. This role reports directly to the Engineering Manager. The Electrical Engineer's responsibilities will include supporting project managers for capital projects. The project work includes supporting scope & estimate development, cost estimating, review of electrical design plans, liaising with other internal and contracted engineering disciplines, construction management of electrical project work and final commissioning/turnover to Operations. The Electrical Engineer should be able to safely execute projects on time and on budget. The Electrical Engineer will also provide electrical engineering support when needed for troubleshooting or optimizing various systems throughout the mill and is occasionally assigned non-electrical capital projects within their capabilities.
Candidates should possess a thorough knowledge and experience in industrial power distribution and process control systems design and troubleshooting, have experience in all aspects of project management, and be an effective communicator throughout all levels of the operation.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support capital project managers for capital projects from inception to completion, including analysis of existing systems to find areas requiring upgrades to producing a safe, code compliant installation with adherence to scope, schedule and budget.
  • Provide electrical engineering and construction support to mechanical/process engineering capital project managers to ensure final installations meet mill electrical standards and OSHA/NEC codes.
  • Analyze technical drawings, interpret specifications, and determine the electrical requirements of a given project.
  • Participate in engineering, design, and construction reviews.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, Maintenance department and Operations department to ensure project objectives are achieved.
  • Perform quality assurance inspections on electrical components supplied and installed for projects and maintenance department repairs/upgrades.
  • Diagnose electrical and operational problems and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Ensure company health and safety codes are always adhered to.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough understanding of electrical safety regulations; NEC/NFPA 70, 70E, 70B, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of safety procedures typically found in an industrial environment (LOTO, Arc Flash, Hot Work, etc.)
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems of varying equipment vintage and condition.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and remain professional at all times.

Required Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of electrical engineering experience in an industrial environment
  • Pulp and Paper experience is preferred.
  • Strong background in electrical power distribution, process control systems, and project management.
  • Experience with CAD software and MS Office preferred.

Required Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Passed FE exam required, Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent preferred.

  • The employee may be required to lift and/or move items over 20-25 pounds. Job function also requires working in a seated position and utilizing the computer keyboard for continuous periods of time.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will sometimes need to work near operating equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to shop elements such as loud noise, dust, and fumes.
  • Office desk work is required.

Employment Terms

  • Salary range: $125,000-$193,750.
