Job description

The Electrical Installer Assistant supports the installation and maintenance of electrical systems on residential and commercial roofing projects. This entry-level role is focused on hands-on tasks such as running wire, cutting conduit, installing components, and assisting licensed installers with rooftop heating cable systems, solar wiring, and related electrical scopes. The position also provides general labor support, material handling, and equipment upkeep while ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.ย 

This role is a crucial steppingstone toward becoming a full Installer with On Top Roofing. With training, experience, and strong performance, the Electrical Installer Assistant will have opportunities to advance into more technical installation responsibilities.ย 

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesย 

โ€ขย  Assist with the installation of rooftop electrical systems, including:ย 

-Snow melt systems (heating cables)ย 

-Solar panel wiring and related componentsย 

-Conduits, junction boxes, breakers, and grounding systemsย 

โ€ขย  Perform hands-on tasks such as running wire, cutting conduit, and mounting componentsย 

โ€ขย  Transport, load, and unload materials and tools to and from job sitesย 

โ€ขย  Assist in troubleshooting and basic repairs under the guidance of lead installersย 

โ€ขย  Read and follow blueprints, electrical plans, and manufacturer specifications with supervisionย 

โ€ขย  Perform general labor duties including site prep, cleanup, and equipment maintenanceย 

โ€ขย  Support roofing crews by coordinating tasks and ensuring trade efficiencyย 

โ€ขย  Conduct safety checks and maintain a hazard-free work environmentย 

โ€ขย  Arrive on time (7:00 AM start time) and ready to work each dayย 

โ€ขย  Other duties as assignedย 

Qualifications/Skillsย 

  • Comfortable working at heights and on sloped roofsย 

  • Ability to use basic tools, including tape measures and hand toolsย 

  • Willingness to learn electrical installation methods and National Electric Code (NEC) standardsย 

  • Familiarity with roofing systems (shingle, TPO, EPDM, metal) preferred but not requiredย 

  • Good communication skills and ability to follow directionsย 

  • Dependable, punctual, and safety-focusedย 

  • Excellent communication and coordination skills with field and office teamsย 

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work outdoors in variable weather conditionsย 

  • May require travel between multiple job sites during the dayย 

  • Commitment to job site safety and PPE complianceย 

Education and/or experienceย 

  • High school diploma or GED requiredย 

  • Previous experience in construction, roofing, or electrical work preferred but not requiredย 

  • Eagerness to pursue additional training and certifications in electrical installationย 

  • Experience with solar, heating cables, or other rooftop electrical systems preferredย 

  • Valid driverโ€™s license and reliable transportation requiredย
