Job description

Zumbrota has an opening for a Maintenance Technician. The Maintenance Technician ensures that all equipment is operating effectively and efficiently. Must have excellent proficiency in preventative maintenance, over-hauls, modification, fabrication, welding, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair. Must also have working knowledge of machine shop equipment and excellent trouble shooting and problem-solving skills.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventative maintenance and/or repairs of production and processing equipment as well as utility related equipment, following all safety procedures
  • Support the installation of new equipment
  • Assist the operators with training or troubleshooting to minimize equipment downtime
  • Ensure all repairs are documented
  • Foster teamwork consistent with our company and plant mission, vision, and core values
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures
  • Follow all DFA GMP's and works in a manner consistent with all corporate and regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements
  • Maintain safe working conditions for employees and compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding health and safety issues
  • Dedicate effort to safety as we expect every employee to leave work in the same condition as they arrived
  • Exhibit the values and ethics of DFA through honesty, discretion, and sound judgement
  • Adhere to all DFA Quality, Safety, and GMP policies and procedures and report any nonconformity
  • Attend required training, including but not limited to Safety, GMP, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Safe Quality Foods (SQF)

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must have two or more years of mechanical/electrical education certification or equivalent experience in manufacturing facilities, preferably food experience
  • Must have or obtain 1st class B boilers license within 12 months and follow hour requirements to upgrade license
  • SAP experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be flexible to support weekend work schedule
  • Must be able to perform electrical work (change pump motors, diagnose motor control problem, etc.)
  • Must know pneumatics, solenoid valves, and air cylinders
  • Must be able to use standard maintenance tools in a safe manner
  • Must have the ability to perform minor projects from planning to installation. (Typically, this includes non-sanitary piping, drain lines, vacuum lines)
  • Must have the ability to perform routine repairs in a safe and timely fashion (rebuilding product/water pumps, boiler maintenance, HVAC, VFD's, sanitary valves, piping leaks)
  • Must have the ability to perform routine preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment, identify any abnormal conditions, and maintain appropriate records
  • Must have the ability to perform basic welding for repair and fabrication (tig/stick)
  • Must have the ability to follow process control computer variables and schematics and diagnose system problems
  • Must have the ability to assist other mechanics on more complicated repairs in a safe and useful manner
  • Must have good interpersonal skills necessary to foster cooperation and effectively communicate with others
  • Must be able to successfully complete a written maintenance test conducted by Maintenance Manager
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
