It combines classroom instruction with paid on-the-job training under the supervision of experienced electricians. Apprentices learn about electrical theory, safety practices, electrical code, and how to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems. These programs typically last four to five years and are required for most electrician licensing processes. Successful completion leads to journeyman electrician status and increased career opportunities.
