A Day in the Life
Results-driven Senior Electrical Engineer with over 4 years of experience driving process improvements and providing critical day-to-day manufacturing support in high-volume, automated medical device production environments. Expert in product failure analysis, root cause determination of field returns, and troubleshooting complex Rockwell PLC platforms, robotics, vision systems, and custom PCB/firmware architectures. Proven track record of managing multi-million dollar vendor equipment procurements and leading cross-functional teams to execute rigorous IQ/OQ/PQ validation protocols. Deep expertise in ensuring strict compliance with NFPA, OSHA, and FDA regulatory standards to maximize production uptime and product safety.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Team with manufacturing and quality personnel on a daily basis to review / disposition production defects and provides potential process and/or equipment corrective actions to assure production schedules and quality expectations are met.
  • Review product field returns to determine root cause of potential manufacturing defects then develop and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Provide support to implement standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department, including storing of equipment documentation, spare computer components, and system backups.
  • Applies knowledge of manufacturing processes, machine design, and components to provide technical support to troubleshoot, maintain, and modify automated and manual equipment.
  • Lead and/or support root cause analysis activities to address quality non-conformances.
  • Create engineering change notices, Bill of Material updates, and performance general ERP support items.
  • Create and execute engineering studies, DOE and validation documentation for accuracy, statistical validity, and compliance.
  • Served as lead engineer for equipment design specifications, request for quotes, vendor selection activities, equipment design review, FAT, SAT, and validation activities.
  • Be responsible for providing all documentation required to support assembly equipment. This includes but is not limited to operating instructions, electrical schematics, specifications, parameter settings, software backups etc.
  • Verify Equipment meets current NFPA, OSHA and all applicable safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot equipment with various Controls Platforms (Labview, PLC's, CNC, PC based, Vision systems and Robotics.
  • Troubleshoot products which include custom PCB boards, firmware and software.
  • Conceptual contributor for technology advances associated with automation and process development.
  • 10% travel to manufacturing sites and supplier visits required.

Minimum Requirements
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
  • OR Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
  • OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience.

Nice To Have
  • Electrical, mechanical, and automation design experience with knowledge of NFPA standards.
  • Experience troubleshooting manufacturing equipment using diagnostic tools and PLC software.
  • Experience with Rockwell PLCs and Safety PLCs (SLC, CompactLogix, and ControlLogix) and related development software.
  • Experience with custom PCB board, firmware, and custom software.
  • Experience with Rockwell HMI development and PC-based programming tools, including C, C++, and Visual Basic.
  • Experience with multi-axis and SCARA robotics and associated programming software.
  • Experience with machine vision systems (Cognex and/or Adept preferred).
  • Experience with servo and stepper motion control systems, including drives, controllers, and feedback devices.
  • Knowledge of machine risk assessment methodologies and electrical safety circuit design.
  • Knowledge of linear brushless motors, motion controllers, and AC inverter technology preferred.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems, Industrial IoT (IIoT), and manufacturing network architectures preferred.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Electromechanical, or Mechanical Engineering.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$108,000.00 - $162,000.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
