What is an electrician?

Electricians are skilled tradespeople responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems in homes, businesses, and industrial settings. They work with wiring, circuit breakers, outlets, lighting, and various electrical components to ensure safe and reliable electricity flow. Electricians must follow strict safety codes and regulations to prevent hazards such as electrical fires or shocks. They may also troubleshoot electrical problems and upgrade existing electrical systems to meet modern standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an electrician, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electrician, you need a solid understanding of electrical systems, safety protocols, and wiring regulations, typically supported by completion of an apprenticeship and relevant licensing. Familiarity with tools like multimeters, circuit testers, and electrical blueprints, along with knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills help electricians work safely and efficiently, especially when collaborating with clients or teams. These competencies ensure compliance, minimize safety risks, and lead to reliable, high-quality electrical installations and repairs.

What are some common challenges faced by electricians when working on commercial projects, and how can they be managed?

Electricians working on commercial projects often encounter challenges such as coordinating with other trades, adhering to tight project timelines, and ensuring compliance with complex electrical codes and safety standards. Effective communication with project managers and other contractors can help prevent scheduling conflicts and rework. Staying updated on the latest codes and regularly participating in safety trainings are crucial for minimizing risks and ensuring quality work. Building strong teamwork skills and being adaptable to fast-changing job site conditions are also important for success in this environment.

Own Your Craft. Lead the Work. Make an Impact.
Energy Management Corporation (EMC) is seeking a highly skilled Electric Motor Mechanic to join our Pomona service center. This is not just another shop role - this is an opportunity for a seasoned professional to take ownership of complex repairs, mentor the next generation, and play a key role in delivering high-quality, mission-critical equipment back to our customers.
If you take pride in precision, thrive on solving tough electro-mechanical challenges, and enjoy leading by example, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Do
As a senior member of the team, you'll be trusted to lead complex repairs, guide others, and ensure top-tier workmanship:
  • Diagnose, repair, and rebuild a wide range of AC/DC motors and electro-mechanical equipment
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting across mechanical and electrical systems
  • Execute and oversee dynamic balancing of rotors and armatures

What Sets You Apart
We're looking for a professional who has both technical expertise and leadership:
  • Proven experience repairing industrial electric motors and rotating equipment
  • Strong understanding of electrical theory and motor design
  • Skilled with precision tools: micrometers, calipers, dial indicators
  • Experience with overhead cranes, forklifts, and medium-voltage testing equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot independently and make sound technical decisions
  • A natural mentor who enjoys developing others and elevating team performance
  • High standards for quality, safety, and workmanship
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to support field work as needed

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This is a hands-on role in a shop environment requiring:
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing, walking, and working with tools for extended periods
  • Use of proper PPE and adherence to safety standards

Why EMC?
At EMC, we value craftsmanship, accountability, and continuous improvement. Our senior mechanics are respected as experts in their field - not just employees, but leaders who shape how work gets done.
Energy Management Corporation is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
We encourage applications from all qualified individuals, including women and minorities.
