Job description

Chord Energy is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Land Technician to provide critical support for our Land department. This position plays a key role in operated activities, including well proposals, project costs, joint interest billing (JIB), and revenue decks. The Land Technician will maintain internal databases and facilitate the approval process for operated ventures. This individual will work closely with Chord's Landmen, Division Order Analysts, Engineers, and Accountants to ensure accurate elections, data entry, and reporting. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-focused, and proactive, with a solid understanding of oil and gas land practices. This position is located in downtown Houston, TX. Hybrid work schedule is an option for remote work on Mondays and Fridays. Level and salary commensurate with experience.
Essential Job Functions
  • Create, distribute and track well proposals, workover and plug and abandon AFE's to working interest owners and unleased mineral owners.
  • Create lease forms and lease purchase reports for new leases acquired by the landmen.
  • Create and maintain JIB and revenue decks, track elections, and manage spreadsheets related to projects
  • Assist Landmen with the preparation of contracts and exhibits for wells and projects
  • Review and code invoices related to wells, ensuring they align with AFEs and department budgets
  • Maintain comprehensive digital files for leases, contracts, and well documentation.
  • Track deadlines for elections, proposals, payments, and other time-sensitive events related to land activities

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in a related discipline
  • 2 years of experience in land administration, contract support, or lease data management
  • Familiarity with land systems, ownership documentation, and lease/contract setup workflows
  • Strong data management and administrative tracking skills; communicates clearly with Landmen and tech teams
  • Basic research skills for reviewing leases, contracts, and other land-related documentation
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and fluid environment; flexible with the demands of a growing company
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
  • Ability to extract, transform, and validate land data to support business decisions using advanced data management and manipulation skills, including experience querying and analyzing large datasets using SQL
