JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION:On-Call Elderly Nutrition Program Cook
LOCATION:Red Cliff Elderly Nutrition Center
SALARY:$60/Half-day $120/Full-day
SUPERVISOR(S): Elderly Services Director
THIS IS AN ON-CALL POSITION. APPLICANTS WILL BE SELECTED FROM THE INFORMATION SUPPLIED ON APPLICATION FORM ONLY. THERE WILL BE NO INTERVIEWS.
JOB SUMMARY: The On-Call Assistant Cook provides essential back-up support to the Elderly Nutrition Program. This position is called in when regular kitchen staff are unavailable and is critical to maintaining uninterrupted meal service for Elders. Reliability and the ability to step in on short notice are key. Duties include assisting with meal preparation, basic kitchen tasks, and ensuring a clean, safe, welcoming environment for Elders.
Examples of Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assist with preparing and serving meals in quantity.
  2. Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen and dining area.
  3. Perform daily kitchen tasks such as dishwashing, cleaning, and organizing.
  4. Package home-delivered meal take-outs as directed.
  5. Maintain simple logs such as meal counts and food temperatures.
  6. Follow direction from the Head Cook or Elderly Services Director.
  7. Work cooperatively and respectfully with clients, staff, and volunteers.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: None
Typical Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE
  1. Basic reading and writing skills.
  2. General knowledge of food preparation, recipe reading, and kitchen equipment.
  3. Knowledge of and sensitivity to Ojibwe culture and traditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Minimum of high school diploma, HSED or GED preferred.
  2. Certification in ServeSafe Food preferred.
  3. Ability to work with a variety of people and clients.
  4. Ability to learn and understand cooking instructions.
  5. Ability to be accurate in maintaining daily logs of number of participations in home delivered meals and congregate meals.
  6. Valid driver's license and eligibility to be placed on the tribe's vehicle insurance policy is preferred.

Daily contact with Head Cook, Elderly Director, volunteers, Bayfield County Aging Department, Tribal Management, vendors, and staff.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Standing for long periods of time; bending; lifting a minimum of 50 lbs; and performing physical tasks associated with cooking and kitchen work.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Kitchen and dining area of the Elderly Nutrition Center. All Tribal buildings are smoke-free.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: None
