Elasticsearch Observability Engineer information

What does an Elasticsearch Observability Engineer do?

An Elasticsearch Observability Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining observability solutions using the Elasticsearch stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, and Beats). Their primary role is to ensure that systems are monitored effectively, logs and metrics are collected and analyzed, and issues are detected and diagnosed quickly. They collaborate with development and operations teams to build dashboards, set up alerts, and optimize performance for monitoring infrastructure and applications. These engineers play a key role in improving system reliability and supporting incident response.

How does an Elasticsearch Observability Engineer typically collaborate with development and operations teams?

As an Elasticsearch Observability Engineer, you frequently partner with both development and operations teams to design and implement monitoring solutions using the Elastic Stack. You'll help developers instrument applications for better traceability and support operations in troubleshooting and optimizing system performance. Regular communication is key, as you'll often lead workshops, create dashboards, and respond to incidents collaboratively. This cross-functional teamwork ensures observability solutions align with organizational goals and provide actionable insights.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Elasticsearch Observability Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Elasticsearch Observability Engineer, you need expertise in Elasticsearch, log management, and data analysis, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with observability tools such as Kibana, Logstash, Beats, and experience with cloud platforms and scripting languages like Python or Bash are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you stand out in this role. These competencies are vital for ensuring system reliability, quickly detecting issues, and delivering actionable insights for continuous improvement.

What is the difference between Elasticsearch Observability Engineer vs Elasticsearch Developer?

Job description

Staff Site Reliability Engineer, Platforms

Location:Nashville, TN (Hybrid, 3 days in office)

Compensation:$180,000 - $210,000 base salary

Eligibility:U.S. residents only

About Us

At 360 Privacy, we build proactive digital security tools to protect high-risk individuals, from senior executives to public figures and their families. Our platform removes personal data exposure across the open web, deep web, and dark web through a combination of human expertise and large-scale automation.

Trusted by 40 of the Fortune 100, we're scaling rapidly and investing heavily in our Platform team, the infrastructure that powers reliable, observable systems across our engineering organization.

Who We're Looking For

We're hiring a Senior or Staff SRE to join our Platform team. This is a high-impact role on a small, capable team (1 Manager + 2 ICs) where you'll have significant ownership over the infrastructure that enables faster software delivery with fewer incidents.

You've spent years building and operating production Kubernetes clusters. You understand observability deeply and have strong opinions about what makes systems debuggable. You've managed ElasticSearch at scale and know the difference between logs that help and logs that just cost money. You think in terms of infrastructure as code and believe Terraform plans should be boring.

You've been paged, you've debugged under pressure, and you've built systems that stay up when things go wrong.

What You'll Do

  • Operate and administer Kubernetes clusters supporting production, development, and local environments
  • Own ElasticSearch and Kibana administration, including ingestion pipelines and observability adoption across applications
  • Author and review Terraform changes to support engineering initiatives
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, and Kubernetes
  • Educate and inform developers on tools and best practices through demos, documentation, and evangelism
  • Participate in on-call rotation (team of 4)
  • Mentor and guide team members and influence platform direction through design reviews (Staff level)

This role has significant infrastructure impact and requires strong technical judgment alongside hands-on operational work.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience in SRE, DevOps, or Platform Engineering
  • Deep expertise with Kubernetes, particularly EKS
  • Strong experience with ElasticSearch and observability tooling
  • Proficiency with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices
  • Solid understanding of AWS IAM and cloud security fundamentals
  • Low ego and excellent written communication skills
  • This role requires advanced proficiency in English to effectively communicate complex information with team members and stakeholders, and to complete job-related documentation and collaboration tasks. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing reasonable accommodations where applicable.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with ArgoCD and GitOps workflows
  • AWS RDS administration experience
  • Python scripting and automation
  • Background in privacy tech, security, or other regulated environments

Compensation

This role has a target base salary range of $180,000-$210,000. Final compensation is based on demonstrated experience, interview performance, and scope of impact. We also offer a bonus structure and equity participation.

Why Join Us

  • Impact:Build infrastructure that protects real people from real-world risks
  • Culture:High ownership, low-ego engineering team that values correctness, reliability, and clarity
  • Longevity:Influence the direction of a core platform built to last years, not quarters
  • Growth:Ongoing learning and conference opportunities
  • Unique perk:Digital privacy protection for you and your family
