Job description

The Merchandising Technician is a front-line operational role within Volunteer Services & Merchandising at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, supporting warehouse and fulfillment operations that enable patient, visitor, and institutional engagement at the Corder Street Warehouse and the 8080A El Rio Building. The Merchandising Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the accurate receiving, storage, movement, and fulfillment of Children's Art Project merchandise, branded ecommerce products, and Institutional Affairs inventory across warehouse locations. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention.

Demonstrate accuracy in counting, documentation, labeling, and verification. Work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team.

Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment. Follow all safety procedures, including proper lifting, loading/unloading, equipment operation, and emergency protocols. Adapt to changing operational needs, schedules, and priorities.

Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail. Maintain required certifications (e.g., forklift) and participate in additional training as needed. Key Competencies Receiving & Inventory Control Receive, inspect, and process incoming shipments, verifying accuracy against purchase orders and packing lists

Unload freight using manual handling or mechanical equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks. Count units, identify discrepancies, and report missing or defective items to appropriate leadership. Inspect customized products for conformity with original orders and escalate discrepancies as needed.

Stock merchandise on shelves or pallets, ensuring systematic organization for accessibility and accurate identification. Conduct regular inventory counts and participate in cycle counts to maintain accurate stock levels and meet institutional requirements. Use POS (Counterpoint), inventory management systems, and cloud-based tools to track inventory movement and maintain accurate records.

Assist in organizing warehouse layout and maintaining adequate supply levels for warehouse and fulfillment operations. Maintain order and cleanliness in warehouse and fulfillment areas. Fulfillment, Outbound Logistics & Operational Support Pick, pack, and prepare customer orders and product transfers accurately and efficiently for all retail channels, including mail, web, special events, and corporate accounts.

Prepare outgoing shipments, maintain shipping station software, and coordinate with carriers to ensure timely deliveries. Conduct quality checks on outgoing orders to ensure accuracy and customer satisfaction. Load and unload delivery vehicles while adhering to safety protocols.

Complete VSM Job Requests, including delivery of approved items for Institutional Affairs, patient amenities, and other Institutional Affairs (IA) needs. Pull and pack inventory for Gift Shop deliveries. Assist with facility notifications, equipment maintenance, and routine warehouse upkeep such as sweeping, recycling packing materials, and organizing supplies.

Assist with supervising volunteers in daily tasks and maintaining a secure, clean, and safe work environment. Equipment Operation, Safety & Transportation Maintain forklift certification and safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment. Follow institutional safety procedures, including proper loading/unloading techniques, inspections, and emergency response protocols.

Operate an 18'-26' box truck safely and maintain accurate vehicle operation documentation. Adapt to changing schedules and routes based on departmental needs. Participate in required training or certification, including potential out-of-state training.

Serve as backup support for warehouse and fulfillment colleagues as assigned by leadership.
