Job description
McKinstry is innovating the waste and climate harm out of the built environment and creating lasting impact. Together, we're building a thriving planet.
Buildings are a leading contributor to the climate crisis, generating nearly 40% of total global energy-related carbon emissions. We're making a lasting impact on our industry and within our communities by addressing the climate, affordability and equity crises through:
- renewables and energy services
- engineering and design
- construction and facility services
To get where we're going, we need big thinkers, problem solvers and collaborative mindsets. Does that sound like you?
The Opportunity with McKinstry
The Strategic Program Manager - Safety is a highly visible, enterprise role responsible for shaping how McKinstry keeps its people and workplaces safe across a growing national footprint. This role partners closely with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) leadership, Facilities, and business stakeholders to lead and scale critical safety programs-bringing structure, clarity, and consistency to how safety is executed across offices, fabrication shops, and field environments.
This position serves as the enterprise lead for emergency management, driving the evolution of McKinstry's emergency preparedness framework to a more cohesive, scalable program. You will translate strategy into execution-developing processes, tools, and expectations, then working through influence to ensure adoption across diverse teams and locations.
In parallel, you will act as the primary EHS partner to Facilities, providing end-to-end support for new site buildouts, renovations, and ongoing operations-anticipating risk, ensuring compliance, and validating that safety requirements are fully embedded from design through occupancy. As the role matures, you will also take on broader EHS program ownership, helping to strengthen enterprise-wide initiatives and continuously improve McKinstry's overall EHS management system.
This is a unique opportunity to build, operationalize, and sustain programs that directly impact employee safety at scale-while working cross-functionally, engaging teams across McKinstry's national footprint, and traveling up to 50% to support sites and drive consistent execution.

- Provide EHS guidance to Corporate Facilities for maintenance, renovations, operational changes, and jurisdiction-specific regulatory requirements.
- Lead the Cardiac Emergency Response Program and drive continuous improvement through metrics, reporting, cross-functional collaboration, and clear communications.
Enterprise Emergency Management & Readiness
- Lead enterprise Emergency Management programs, including preparedness, response, drills, and continuous improvement, aligned with regulatory requirements and the EHS Management System.
- Establish and maintain site-level emergency readiness frameworks, expectations, and tools that reinforce shared ownership with local leaders.
- Plan, coordinate, and evaluate annual emergency drills; track gaps, corrective actions, and lessons learned.
Enterprise EHS Program Management & Governance
- Develop and lead the enterprise ergonomics program for office and field environments, including assessments, solution recommendations, and training.
- Partner with EHS, HR, Facilities, and business leaders to monitor program effectiveness, support risk reduction, and drive continuous improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Strong program management skills (frameworks, tools, metrics, tracking, reporting).
- Ability to translate requirements into clear, practical guidance for leaders and teams.
- Experience leading emergency drills, AARs, and corrective action planning.
- Effective partner to contractors and project teams; confident resolving EHS issues.
- Risk-based judgment with ability to prioritize improvements and drive measurable outcomes.
- Clear communicator able to influence without authority and support change adoption.
- Experience supporting facilities and/or capital projects; First Aid/CPR/AED program oversight a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communicator, with good listening skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally with people at all levels.
