Duties and Responsibilities (* Denotes Essential Functions):
- *Serve as the Educational Specialist for the Carpentry Technology Program (CARP). Oversee the day-to-day operations of the CARP facility.
- *Prepare and manage the program budget in collaboration with instructional staff.
- *Order carpentry-related materials, supplies, and consumables for all classes, training activities, and program-supported projects.
- * Serve as the Carpentry Technology program safety liaison. Conduct & document required EHSO inspection & audits and complete annual hazardous waste management training.
- *Instruct students in the safe and proper operation of carpentry equipment and related technology through small group lectures and one-on-one instruction in the shop environment or in the carpentry yard.
- *Demonstrate selection and use of materials, tools, and equipment.
- Supervise students in advanced laboratory work.
- In consultation with instructors, develop laboratory exercises aimed at teaching advanced techniques in carpentry, including layout, measurement, framing, cutting, fastening, assembly, tool operation, machinery use, jobsite/shop safety, and project-based construction practices.
- Design/administer laboratory tests based on lab exercises (e.g., written and performance-based components) in consultation with instructors.
- Evaluate student performance based on laboratory performance test results in consultation with instructors.
- In consultation with instructors, counsel students as needed especially with respect to behavior and conduct related to: safety protocols, job readiness and preparation, teamwork and collaboration, etc.
- *Assist instructors in coordinating non-credit training, apprenticeship-related activities, industry training, community education, Summer CTE Academy activities, and other CARP events, including class set-up, equipment and material preparation, facility scheduling, registration support, maintenance of mock-ups or instructional projects, and completion of related documentation.
- Provide input to instructors on structuring the direction of the program, to include budget needs for the program.
- *Upkeep and maintain all equipment, tools, materials, supplies and mockups, including development and maintenance of a key systematic inventory.
- *Manage intake of all Carpentry Technology program donations, including tools, equipment, materials, supplies, and related items; ensure completion of required documentation and proper inventory tracking.
- As needed, deliver and pick up locally obtainable materials.
- *Develop & maintain a computerized inventory control system for tools, technical information & supply items; and coordinate the operation of the tool room.
- *Organize & maintain a system to ensure the safe and secure storage of facility keys, tools, equipment, and supplies including but not limited to a system to track the issuance and return of tools and supplies to students and faculty.
- *Maintain and/or schedule servicing of program equipment, inventory & update technical information.
- *Ensure appropriate replacement of damaged or outdated carpentry tools, machinery, equipment, materials, manuals, technical information, teaching aids, safety equipment, replacement furnishings, software & supplies.
- *Assist instructors in shop organization including equipment preparation & placement to ensure an optimum learning environment.
- Ensure the program facility and equipment remain safe, clean, and in good working order by scheduling maintenance and repairs as needed, conducting daily facility checks for cleanliness and security, and maintaining equipment logs (including repair and maintenance records), inventory, and other required documentation.
- Support program outreach by responding to inquiries about program details across various communication channels (responding to incoming phone calls, email, etc.) and participating in promotional activities such as campus tours and career fairs.
- Collect and maintain equipment manuals, technical information, schematics and other training aids in a fully composed & indexed library.
- Work with instructional staff to support CARP review, program-related documentation, and other program quality, compliance, or reporting activities as assigned.
- *Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge of the carpentry and construction trade and keep abreast of changes in tools, equipment, machinery, materials, safety practices, building methods, technology, apprenticeship expectations, and workforce needs.
- *Assess the needs of the CARP program and the industry by attending advisory committee meetings with industry leaders and employers , attending informal meetings with the participants of the program, and following-up on committee recommendations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in construction technology, construction management, building/construction trades, or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for carpentry, construction, shop/lab operations, training, and/or program or project management; or associate degree in carpentry, construction technology, construction management, building/construction trades, or related field and 5 year(s) experience with responsibilities for carpentry, construction, shop/lab operations, training, and/or program or project management; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of carpentry and construction technology as demonstrated by broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
- Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with carpentry, construction technology, lab operations, and workplace safety.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
- For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of the methods, materials, procedures and techniques used in carpentry and construction technology, including measurement, layout, framing, cutting, assembly, fastening, shop drawings, project plans, tool and machinery operation, material handling, and safe work practices.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and resolve complex carpentry and construction issues, applying advanced troubleshooting and repair skills.
- Demonstrated professional training, certification, or equivalent industry-recognized qualification in carpentry, construction technology, construction safety, or a closely related building/construction trade, as applicable to the detailed duties of the position.

- Experience working in an educational setting.
