What is the difference between Educational Intern vs Teaching Assistant?
| Aspect | Educational Intern | Teaching Assistant |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Usually enrolled in or recent graduate of education or related programs | Typically has some teaching experience or related coursework |
| Work Environment | Internship setting, often in schools, educational programs, or non-profits | Classroom or educational setting supporting teachers |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Educational institutions, non-profits, summer programs | Schools, universities, tutoring centers |
| Common Search & Comparison Intent | Understanding internship roles in education | Assisting teachers and gaining classroom experience |
Educational Interns typically participate in internships to gain experience and often have less formal teaching responsibilities. Teaching Assistants support classroom activities and assist teachers directly. Both roles involve working in educational settings, but Interns focus on learning and observation, while TAs are more involved in day-to-day teaching support.

- Navigating client barriers to education, including transportation and childcare.
- Differentiating and scaffolding instruction to students individually or in small groups.
- Communicating with local stakeholders and adult education services to connect students to appropriate classes.
- Support teachers in the preparation of the student materials for the classes.
- Coordinate with volunteers to ensure proper coverage is in place for adult education classes, including childcare volunteers; cover the childcare volunteer role as needed.
- Collect and interpret data to support educational initiatives and encourage student success.
- Adhere to IRC policies, particularly those related to confidentiality and client privacy, practice respect and consideration of clients' varied backgrounds and experiences, respect client beliefs and values.
