An Educational Content Writer creates learning materials such as textbooks, lesson plans, online courses, and assessments. Their main goal is to develop clear, accurate, and engaging content that aligns with curriculum standards and helps students learn effectively. They often collaborate with educators, subject matter experts, and instructional designers to ensure the content meets educational objectives. Educational Content Writers may also adapt materials for different age groups or learning styles and stay updated on best practices in teaching and learning.

What does an educational content writer do?

As an educational content writer, your job is to develop educational material for teachers and students. This may involve creating lesson plans, helping plan a curriculum, researching material, or finding sources to back up any claims in the content. Most educational content writers focus specifically on published material sold to schools or similar educational institutions, as well as research and study guides sold in bookstores. This job should not be confused with writing general educational content like blog posts, including posts from or by academic companies. Many educational content writers specialize in specific areas, especially for material in the K-12th-grade range.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an educational content writer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Educational Content Writer, you need strong writing, research, and curriculum development skills, often supported by a degree in education, English, or a related field. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), educational standards, and digital content creation tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Google Workspace is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly are essential soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities ensure that educational materials are engaging, accurate, and accessible, effectively supporting diverse learner needs.

How does an educational content writer typically collaborate with subject matter experts during the content creation process?

Educational Content Writers frequently work alongside subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure accuracy and depth in their materials. This collaboration often involves conducting interviews, requesting feedback on drafts, and clarifying complex concepts to make them accessible for learners. Building strong relationships with SMEs is essential, as it helps writers produce content that is both pedagogically sound and factually correct. Open communication and adaptability are key, as writers may need to revise content based on expert input or curriculum changes.

Job description

Content Product Manager

Our client is a sports technology and education company that provides training and compliance solutions across North America. With over 2.4 million users across 1,000+ organizations, they partner with national governing bodies, sport organizations, and education systems to transform safe sport training into a standard for culture and performance.

They are hiring a Content Product Manager to own their content strategy and roadmap. Content is central to their core product offering, and this role acts as the strategist and driving force behind everything the company creates. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer and working closely with executive leadership and subject-matter experts, you will establish the roadmap, drive end-to-end execution, and hold the line on quality, accuracy, and delivery pace.

What You’ll Do

Strategy and Content Roadmap

  • Own and execute the content roadmap, aligning it directly with the broader technology and product roadmap as business needs shift.
  • Establish active feedback loops with users, clients, and market-facing teams to ground strategic decisions in direct audience insight.
  • Translate the needs of athletes, coaches, parents, officials, and administrators into clear content development plans.

Delivery, Operations, and Execution

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of content initiatives, managing project timelines, scope, resources, and budgets.
  • Coordinate internal leadership, external experts, and creative partners to keep execution on track without compromising quality.
  • Establish process discipline and milestone tracking to move projects efficiently from concept through release.

Editorial Substance, Craft, and Learning Design

  • Direct narrative structure, message clarity, and tone to ensure content is credible, engaging, and practically applicable in the field.
  • Partner directly with external experts and internal executive leaders to translate domain expertise into trustworthy learning assets.
  • Design educational content focused on clear outcomes, skill building, and long-term behavior change across target audiences.
  • Remain hands-on in drafting scripts, outlines, learning briefs, and early prototypes to drive development forward.

AI Integration and Engine Optimization

  • Apply advanced AI tools across research, scripting, instructional design, and rapid prototyping workflows to maximize output velocity.
  • Build prompt libraries, repeatable templates, and internal systems to increase speed and consistency across the team.

Required Superpowers

  • Proven track record owning content strategy, roadmap prioritization, and content delivery within a tech or product environment.
  • Strong project management capabilities with experience driving complex production schedules across multiple contributors.
  • Practical, hands-on fluency with generative AI tools (such as Claude and ChatGPT) integrated directly into daily content workflows.
  • Sharp editorial judgment, including strong writing, messaging, and narrative structure skills.
  • Sound instructional design instincts focused on driving behavior change and clear learning outcomes.
  • Ability to synthesize complex expert knowledge into plain-language, engaging content.
  • Comfort conducting user feedback sessions, reviewing performance data, and operating independently in a growing organization.

This is an opportunity to own the core content engine of an established safe sport platform, using modern AI workflows and instructional design principles to shape training that directly impacts sporting culture across North America.
