Job Title: Playcard Environmental Education Assistant
Supervisor: Playcard Environmental Education Center Teacher
Terms of Employment: 37.5 hours per week during 190-day school year
Job Summary
Playcard Environmental Education Center is housed 6 miles West of Loris South Carolina. Resting on 200 acres of lush rolling woodlands along the banks of beautiful Playcard Swamp. The Center is surrounded by some of the state's most ecologically diverse features, including the Pee Dee and Waccamaw Rivers, and Cartwheel Bay Heritage Preserve.
This position will be under direct supervision of the Playcard teacher performing duties as assigned relative to the facilities and student programs.
Essential Duties
Responsibilities include: co-facilitate a wide range of programs including environmental, outdoor, and experiential education such as aquatic ecology, herpetology, wildlife biology, camping, canoeing/kayaking, and challenge course (40%); animal care (5%); provide program maintenance and development (20%); general maintenance, grounds/housekeeping, and kitchen duties (35%).

Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Playcard Teacher.
Job Specifications
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the District's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)
  1. Associate's Degree or enrolled in specific post-secondary studies in an environmental related area of study preferred.
  2. Valid South Carolina drivers license.
  3. General knowledge of grounds equipment operations.
  4. Genuine interest in children and teaching; positive attitude; outgoing personality; open-minded; willingness to learn; well-developed communication skills and leadership ability; experience in education, environmental education, outdoor education, natural science, recreation, or a related field; hands-on experience with power tools and equipment such as chainsaws, tractors, etc. Animal care as well as the willingness to learn light carpentry skills are needed as well as the ability to pass a criminal background check.
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District/Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and reach with hands and arms; walk; sit; stoop or kneel; crouch or crawl.
