POSITION: Special Education Paraeducator

Building Support and Educational Support Services 

Reports to Building Principal

Hour: Tuesdays (7:45 to Noon) & Thursdays (7:45 am to Noon)

Starting pay: $16.25/hour

POSITION SUMMARY: Waverly-Shell Rock Middle School is seeking a caring, student-centered, and collaborative Special Education Paraeducator to support students in grades 5-8. The successful candidate will work closely with special education teachers, classroom teachers, and support staff to help students access learning opportunities, develop independence, and achieve success academically, socially, and behaviorally.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Provide academic support to students individually and in small groups under the direction of certified staff.
  • Assist students in accessing classroom instruction and completing assigned work.
  • Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and accommodations.
  • Support students with academic tasks, organizational skills, and classroom routines across all content areas.
  • Assist with behavior support plans and promote positive student behaviors by using positive behavior support strategies and de-escalation techniques as needed.
  • Assist with personal care tasks for students who require support (e.g., mobility, feeding, toileting), if applicable to the assignment.
  • Help students develop organizational, social, self-advocacy, and independent living skills.
  • Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation; communicate observations to the supervising teacher.
  • Support students during transitions between classes, lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times.
  • Supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, lunch, recess, crosswalks, and other assigned areas.
  • Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and adapt materials for individual student needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, counselors, and families.
  • Participate in district and building training related to student needs as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support student success and school operations.
